16:03 on the track

I still can't believe I never broke 16:00. How depressing cause I'll never do it now.

I think half of the road best times are on short courses.

23:48 pr, yep, not very fast, but at least there's room for improvement, I would guess the average male time is 19:00.

17:35 when I was 38. Started running at 36. I don't run the 5k very often. I'm not a big fan of shorter races.

I just stumbled upon this site the past few weeks so I have no idea what the average 5K time of its members are. I would think it would be hard to calculate based on how anonymous/transient a lot of the posting seems to be. There were some very impressive times listed so far.

My high school XC 5K PR was 16:45 (pretty flat course). I ran one outdoor track 5K in college as sophomore in April 1998 in 16:38 which is technically my lifetime PR. I remember going out too fast even though it felt too slow as I was used to running the mile all winter and ended up being disappointed with the time.

I just started some working out again the past 2 years so my current PR is 17:31 (outdoor time trial on track by myself this December) and 17:38 in January at indoor track 5K race.

15:05, road. Thought 14:59 was next--never happened. All kinds of slower races felt harder. Probably a common syndrome--not really appreciating what turns out to be the best day of your career.

The average guy who comes on here seems to have some HS or college team experience--not so many 18:00+ types. I'll say 17:00--just under 5:30 pace.

16:52 road at age 41.

My guess for the LRC "average" would be in the 17:45 range.

Are you the fastest female poster here? TX runner girl is like a 19:30 runner, I think. Of course, there are like 3 female posters for every 97 male posters!

Mine is 16:47 on road 5k (two times, actually)

The average POSTER time is...17, I think. The average letsrun reader+poster average is about 18, I think.

Steve--

My temporary weight loss was due to illness; I'm sure that most of it was water.

I'm a very lean 180-185, and cannot imagine running with 45 lbs less on my legs.

Do you think that you can actually get down to your "peak running weight"?

I'd love to see 40-45 lbs strapped to a distance runner, but I don't know what the best way would be to strap it on. A vest would really inhibit breathing; and it would be difficult to ensure that wherever and however it was placed, it would not slide around.

Maybe 15 lbs on the low back, 5 lbs on each hip, 5 lbs on each upper arm, and 5 lbs on each thigh, secured with good adhesive?

I would pay to see it!

My goal is to lose 50% of it, minimum and 75% maximum. I am making progress, but it is very difficult. Wish me luck!

15:30 is a pretty pedestrian time in college. I'd be surprised if the the majority of college+ male runners here hadn't run under 16.

Not for Div III. At my old conference, MIAC, that's good enough to squeeze into top 8 for all-conference most years. Sometimes even as high as 2nd or 3rd. There's only been 11 or 12 runners at my college who ever ran faster than that. There's a bunch of runners every year who never break 16:00.

It would be interesting to see age PRs, as not everyone ran in college.

15:33 (College Track)
16:11 (Road - age 25)
17:57 (30s)
18:55 (40s)

I'm definitely not the fastest. My PR is 18:52 with a lot of excuses available (indoor track, altitude, I was only a freshman, etc.) That year I mostly ran in the 19's. Then I got injured and out of shape for several years. I'm now back down to 20's-21's on marathon training. I've never had much speed or talent except for the willingness to work hard and not give up.

I think an interesting comparison would to look at the times of the trolls versus the serious poster(s).
