I'm wondering why the Oklahoma high school system is still in the stone age to where people don't know what the records are?

Its because secondary education in oklahoma is #48 in the nation. Arizona has the best secondary schools in the country.

I don't believe so. Kevin ran 9:08.36 for 2 miles back in 2007 at Arcadia:
http://www.ohstrack.com/schwab07.aspIt's also worth noting Briana McLeod ran 4:50 for 1600m at Golden West and 10:48 for 3200m at Kansas Relays in '03. IMHO, the Jenks girls teams from '00-'03 were the best ever.

Jenks girl's team was nasty back then from their 02 team I think they sent all seven girls d1 on scholarship
As one discusses great Oklahoma milers one should not forget Mike Manke from Perkins, Oklahoma. Mike just missed the 1976 Olympic team running 3:37.05 for 1500m at the trials garnering fourth place. If my recollection is correct he missed the teams by fractions of a second.
Good call on Manke. I'd heard his name from Ronnie parks. Incidentally, as far as jenks girls xc teams go, the team led by Amy tinker, britt smith, Amy rodehaver, and the kowalski twins was just about as good as they got. I think that was 1990? Boys team in 1991 sent all but one to D1...the excluded runner swam instead...
FREZER LEGESSE IS THE MAN
kid ran 224 at big 12 nats, WHICH IS 356 MILE PACE.

Ryun could never even fathom.
Are you on drugs???? Can't you even remember watching Ryun run?? You clearly have no clue, not ONE!!!!
U.S. Grant did have a running tradition back in the day. Coach Gary Lower produced two of Oklahoma's all time greats in Larry Rose and Jim Bolding. Bolding was inducted into the Okla Sports Hall of Fame in August 2011. Jim broke the world record in the 440 yard hurdles in 1974 with a time of 48.7 sec. In addition to Rose running Okla. H.S. state mile records of 4:12.6 (Daily Oklahoman archive 4/16/1967); and 4:11.2 (Daily Oklahoman archive 5/12/1967), Gary Lower coached many other outstanding runners during this era. Gary Lower coached U.S. Grant to City track titles in 1967,1968,1969 & 1970. A dropped baton in the 440 yard relay likely cost them the State title in 1969. One of the great accomplishments during this period was that U.S. Grant held three Okla. H.S. State relay records at the same time.Mile relay @ 3:18.1(Watts,Stevens,Sifers,Kurrasch)Sprint medley @ 3:32.1(Kurrasch,Stevens,Sifers,Watts)Distance Medley@ 10:36.5(Kurrasch,Watts,Lindsley,Anglin)

Why wasn't this kids performance in the newspaper?
3:58 mile indoors is UNHEARD OF in Oklahoma.
I guess college football really is the only thing that Oklahoma and their media care about.
Does anyone know how this kids been performing outdoors this season?

soonersports.com shows most of their results.
Legeese just broke a 27-year old university record in the 1,000 indoors.....

Larry Rose was not rich, that was a flat lie. He lived in the Grant district, and would walk the miles to school if he missed the bus. He would run before school in the snow, sleet, wind, heat - whatever the Oklahoma weather would throw at him. His dedication was amazing. His father, a postal worker, never saw him run until he took state. So he did his practice for the love of the sport.
Don't know where the others got their information, but it's false. Larry was a kid who worked his heart out, and followed the recommendations of his coach.
Without his scholarships, he would have had to work through college.

We've been waiting two and a half years for you to debunk the lies in this thread.

White Guy from Edmond wrote:Ya, and im sure you're also going to tell me that Jim Ryun is better than Webb simply because his times were on cinder tracks, right? gtf outta here.
No, but I'll tell you that Jim Ryun is better than Webb based on the Olympic silver medal sitting at his house.
And I would tell you Ryun was the best ever high schooler simply because he made an Olympic team as a high school JUNIOR.....enduring MULTIPLE Olympic trials to do so (not some one-off).
Webb couldn't hold Ryun's jockstrap, even though he has begged to.
Then why is webbs highschool mile and pr for the mile so significantly faster than ryuns?
Im sure you will give the typical "ryun had crappy spikes that werent zoom milers and he raced on a cinder track" bullcrap. Then apply your little "ryun did better in olympic races" propaganda. I dont care. Webb has ran faster times and at a younger age.
Come to think of it, webb has faster pr's than ryun in every single distance. Plus webb is a democrat. Ryun was a tall lanky overpriveleged white piece of crap. He had some talent for his generation, but webb shocked the world and is a completely different species than ryun. If theres anyone that can even remotely be compared to webbs talent, its manzano or boaz cheboiwyo.
Larry rose was a decent highschool runner, still overpriveleged because he attended grant before the southside went downhill due to gentrification. All modern day oklahomans would roll him up and smoke him. Schwab, malik lyttle, even PETE ORBAN.
Now hold on a second there, buster. Webb's sweet ride was on a brilliant Eugene day with a boatload of elite milers to tag along behind.
Ryun ran a KS high school state championship on a sweltering day against KS high school competition.......not one of these elite high school meets they have today.
Webb run two sub four's (one a squeaker just under) against adult men. For Webb's Eugene run to match Ryun's San Diego......Webb would've had to beat El G that day.
Don't even dare to bring Pete Orban into this........Orban is a Tulsa tough, not an OKC kinda guy.
How can people be this stupid?
When the NOP story develops, Webbs name will be thrown in there. He was even too dirty for Salazar and got thrown out of the group. Never heard of Jim Ryan's name associated with any people like that.
Frezer recently ran a 336.93 at the South Carolina Track Classic (same race that Kyle Merber 334)
looks like he's still doing well. Go Frezer!!
