Second, WHO CARES ABOUT THE TIMES??? They could have swam with the current, biked downhill and ran 11.3 miles for all we know. Maybe they biked uphill and ran downhill.
Times really don't matter, only place.

My reason for asking was more so out of curiosity. If you look at the 1500m world record pace, it is only slightly faster than the pace that they were holding in open water for 1.2 miles. So yes I do care, and my question was answered (they were swimming with the current), and now rest easy now knowing the answer.

So Lance did his first Ironman this morning in Panama and finished 2nd. Proves what a total joke that sport is. He should have no problems winning in Hawaii.

Vcruz:

I watched the entire race though updates, I was glued ot the computer.

I am a former professional triathlete that has traveled the world for the sport.

I am now a prominent tri and run coach in the southern US.

I have lived with and coached many pro half and full ironman.

The analogy makes sense if you understand running enough. Of course it's not exact, but the logic is the same. And it is directed towards people saying that lance will win Hawaii because of his win in Panama. As the OP posted.

I run close to 3.5km per min and had not run for over 10 years. I'm 180cm, 77-78kg, i'm 40, I've got a job and sticking to short distances 10-14km. BMI for elite says my weight needs to be 69-70kg. At 30 years, my weight was 73kg and I "could" run 3.22km per min (and hold it) when I put in the training.

So what are the elites? Craig Alexander is 180cm, 68-69kg. Lance Armstrong, (from wiki) 1.77cm, 71 kg that was during his bike days. The photo's he looks super ripped, i'd say 66-67kg. If we all were super ripped we would all be running the same times. If we all did the LONG bike rides, super light bikes, had 20 years of nutritionist guidance, unlimited doctors & massages, could train with elite triathlete (as Lance has).

So trying to compare Lance with ordinary triathlete's and egging us to get out there and win, guess what would happen if we all MATCHED our ELITE BMI's and DID the training?????

Hey guess what else all the elites say? They all say everybody is doing the same training, it all comes down to who's mentally tougher! Every single elite says it an interview somewhere.

He didn't put his heart into training for the marathon. Look back and read some of the training he supposedly did for the marathons he ran and you'll see it was minimal. Now look at what he has been logging for his tri training. He's logging pro triathlete miles...80-100 rides followed by 8-10 run or 40-60 rides followed by 12-15 mile runs with some tempo miles.
He's training with Chris Lieto taking it seriously.

Where are you getting this data?

Rally, I wonder if we ever raced (2x US Jr Champ) .....was one of 4 vying for the last Sydney spot before I "retired" and became a miler/road whore.

I truly love the guy (ryan whitehead?) who talks out his butt about dochs having 28:00 ability....haha, too funny bro! love to see that result in print.....of course it IS true that Bevan could easily run 29low/flat on the track.....but not much, if any, faster.
what scares me is that, if USADA doesn't get ALL the info from the feds investigation, then lance will make it to the line in Kona before getting popped (perhaps he never will, but i really think usada will be able to nail him this time). then the only question will be if he can handle the last 10mi or so.....b/c OBVIOUSLY (imo) he can handle a swim/ride in the heat, and the first 10-15mi can be gotten through at kona....just wonder if Crowie will have the run of his life again that will most likely be necessary to run dopestrong down?
should be fun, guess that's why they run the races :)
cheers, dude-

oh, one more thing. JT ran like crap and he knows it. sure he's still young in the sport, but jesse should have only ceded 1-2min to dochs, no more. perhaps that ride took a bit out of him, but i'd look for him to drop another min or two in his next 70.3, which will cert be nice for him to at least be able to say he handily outran dopestrong. ;)

Does an excellent cyclist/average runner have an advantage over an average cyclist/excellent runner if the former rides with the latter?

(this is not fully directed at the last poster, but the whole thread)

Every time I read a thread chock full of triguys, I remember why everyone hates them so much. So egotistical, so hard to understand (not bright), so type A, so weird, getting in fights with everyone, and the thread is just a total downer.

Never has there been a sport so full of douches as TRIATHLON.

don't see why that would be. if they get off the bike together, barring a herculean effort from the ave cyc/fast runner guy, he's going to wax the ave runner every time. esp in IM branded races, where there is lots of defacto drafting allowed. it's not nearly as good as tdf style drafting but, fact is, you ARE allowed to sit in line at 10m....makes a diff....not that much, but 1-2% over 2+ hrs = a noticeable diff.........
cheers, dude-
