On a side note, what does Coach Li know that most American coaches (Dave Smith comes to mind) don't know about developing young talents? This one coach had 3 guys under the 5k record: 1 under US and 2 under Collegiate.
Lalang is having a Henry Ronoesque year!

Looks like we will see a sub 13 CR this summer.
Let's get this straight. Tonight, we've seen NCAA athletes run:
7:43 3,000
7:44 3,000
13:08 5,000
13:13 5,000
13:19 5,000
13:19 5,000
...and the evening is not over...
Sorry mate, you are crazy if you think derrick will run sub 13.
Coach Li also knows it is smarter to work with genetically gifted east African runners. Coach Li is no dummy.

Of course I meant Lalang or Sambu for sub 13 CR. However, I believe that Derrick could indeed break the US CR. He looked great yesterday.

My bad, thought you meant Chris Derrick with "CR".

You are of European ancestry and are not really American either
Wow, Cheserek appeared to be hurting at the end. His form looked pretty terrible in fact.
All the folks who complain about Lagat being from Kenya, where is your family from? Europe? Africa? Asia? Probably not the U.S.
According to your logic, maybe Billy Mills should be listed as the American record holder for a range of distances.
Xenophobia and racism = ignorance. Just a thought.
while lagat looked rather amazing and all, lalang is frightening. his lanky-ass stride is powerful and just gobbles ground.
he looks more composed than an asbel kiprop (and that is not meant as a diss as kiprop spiders his way about impressively)...
you can say this of so many, but lalang could be the next big thing in mid-distance.
I am amazed at how Lagat continues to run at that level with his age and all. He will soon be a master smoking young men.

This is without a doubt one of my biggest pet peeves. Coach Li is NOT a great coach, he just gets phenomenal talent. To understand his abilities as a coach just take a look at how "well" Arizona does as A WHOLE TEAM in XC and then tell me if you think his low mileage, high intensity crap training works.

Are you implying that Centro would not stand a chance against Rupp at 2000m? I find this to be a rather dubious proposition as Centro is clearly the #1 American at 1609m.

What does he know? I'll tell you:
2 full scholarships
+
Bernard Lagat as "assistant coach"
+
1-2 plane tickets to Eldoret/year
=
2 CR breakers (+tax)
2000 =/= 3000
Centro is better at the mile than Rupp.
Rupp is better than Centro at the 2 mile.
Rupp's better at the 2 mile than Centro is at the mile (in terms of speed, not in terms of racing ability)
Placing the marker slightly closer to the mile than 2 mile would seem to even this out. If it was too much longer, Rupp might be able to run away from the beginning.
Also, did anyone else notice that Coach Li said in his interview that his projections for Lagat apply to Lalang, too. So when he wrote down 13:07 for Lagat (which is pretty wild that he predicted that with exact splits), he meant it for Lalang, too. Wow.

So, when the Collegiate outdoor meets start this year, will the posted CR be what Lalang just ran or whatever the outdoor record is...presently?

OMG......
just look 1/2 a lap behind Rupp
Centro is clearly superior to Rupp (and every other American) at 1609. And you are saying that Rupp would destroy him at 2000?!? Seriously, how ignorant are you?
