Hmmm...Lindgren's marathon story keeps changing.
In this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfxCuDMqcjc
he claims that in his 2 hour pace marathon he was 100m from the line before he passed out, but they didn't have clocks or give any split times during the marathon back then.
In this article on the main page
http://www.garycohenrunning.com/Interviews/Lindgren.aspx
He claims that his first marathon he ended up running 2:16 in his first marathon after dying in the last 4 miles, and then he saw the clock said 1:58 in his second marathon a couple hundred meters from the line before he passed out.
But in THIS article from March 2011
http://runningtimes.com/Print.aspx?articleID=22228
He claims that in his first marathon, there was a lead truck with a CLOCK and they were broadcasting on the radio that he was under 2 hour pace all the way up to 22 miles (so he would have set the half marathon world record by 4 minutes and apparently it was on the radio). Also, he says that he faded to a 2:26 as opposed to 2:16, while the results list him as 2:27:47.
He obviously needs to keep his facts straight.
However he obviously ran ****ing fast and was one of the best high school/college athletes ever so while all his training stories (and some racing stories) are bullsh*t he's still an amazing athlete.
His mileage was probably like badger miles but instead of running fast and saying it was 7 minute pace like a badger mile, he probably ran slow but then called it 5 minute pace for everything he did in training.
