Hello everyone,
I was hoping someone may have some experience with a rather odd running injury. For quite some time, I have been having pain running along my inner shin, along with some inflammation above the ankle bone on my right leg.
At first, I had terrible shin splints, so much so that I would wake up during the night because the muscles were so tight. After taking it easy and stretching, the tightness is gone. However, there is still this very odd twinge about 4-5 inches above the ankle bone. It is not on the tibia itself, rather behind it towards the direction of the back of my leg.
AFter a lot of research it looks like the twinge is part of the posterior tibialis. Research online points to tendonitis pain of this muscle, but only describes pain in the arch and below the ankle bone. My arches haven't been flattening and I don't have pain along the forefoot.
The best way to describe my problem is that when I place my thumb on the posterior tibial and rotate my foot inwards, I can feel a popping of sliding of a thick muscle or "cord" under my fingers. The spot is tender but not terribly painful-just worrisome.
Does this sound like tendonitis or is it just simply shin splints? Any suggestions how to get rid of it?
Thanks!
