I am going to buy a domain name on Namecheap for about $10 (already found the one I want), and hosting on Hostgator (I found the code MISCCOUPON which gives 25% off my order).
I plan to make my money with affiliate ads, including Amazon and Commission Junction.
Anyone have any tips for me getting started? Will be using Wordpress.
If your business model is to attract eyeballs and sell ads, what are you going to do to attract vistors? As a site vistor, why would I bother to visit your site ... rather than the trillions of other sites I can waste my time on?
Well, you might think of using facebook or google+ to blog, twitter to message, plus smugmug or flickr for pictures. Individuals websites are quickly being consolidated to those mentioned. Running websites like lr are dying these days.

I have found a niche that I will be writing articles about. The keyword gets about 5,000 searches a month and has very low competition.
I doubt you're going to make much money posting ads.
You can get a free website on wordpress.com, of course they post their own ads on it though.

I see, you're a troll for hopeless gator. So it would cost you $10 plus hosting, whatever that is.
Why not just double the free sites that you're already making some money on, then you won't be out anything.
I've heard that hostgator is the best hosting, because the baby plan offers unlimited domains for cheap. If there is a better option, let me know.

You said you already have a "couple other sites". That suggests you at least know enough to get a few set up. So, what is the question?

These other sites I have are free blogs on Blogger. I don't think these will work very well long term.
You know you can host on blogger and just use your own URL right? Why reinvent the wheel with Wordpress?

It may be worth seeing if you can just alter current sites if the above is not helpful. Also, since you would be integrated with Google through Blogger, Adsense and Analytics seem to play a little bit more nicely for non-technical folks.
