There is only one McDonalds in the world (Sedona, Arizona) with turquoise arches!

The current shoreline of Florida is only 4-6000 years old. About 20000 years ago, the entire continental shelf was exposed, with sea levels several hundred feet lower than today.

125 000 years ago, during the last interglacial, the sea levels were actually about 25 feet higher than now, and everything south of Orlando was under water and a coral reef, as well as all of the east and west coasts.

This is pretty much true. However, Russia and Georgia both have McDonald's and Russia invaded Georgia a few years back. But it doesn't change the interesting trend of world dominance (probably not the right word there) being in the form of soft power rather than military power. And I'd say there's a more than decent chance of two nations with McDonald's getting into a major conflict within the next 30 years.


My fact: Every monarch butterfly comes from the same small patch of trees in Mexico. They're famous for migrating north, then returning to the same patch of trees at the end of the migration period. What's interesting about the migration period is it spans 3-4 generations. So the butterflies that leave Mexico never come back. Yet the butterflies from the north still return to the one small patch of trees in Mexico.

Ahhhh, OK, I didn't get that, my bad.

The various Balkan states of the former Yugoslavia were all "sort of" at war with each other (really this was more about conflit between the three major ethnic groups, not so much the individual states), and wiki says they had mickey D's from the mid-90s onward.

As far as facts: Using mouthwash raises your risk of cancer. Researchers in Australia found that people using alcohol-based mouthwash were significantly more likely to develop cancers of the mouth and throat. This is because you have to hold the mouthwash in your mouth for a while, which gives it time to damage the cells in your mouth. Mouthwash is actually pretty high proof.

Many years ago, during a 5th grade summer school enrichment class in suburban New York (Rockland County), somebody brought in a dying Polyphemus moth. It laid some eggs. I took them home. They hatched. Suddenly I was the possessor of about thirty tiny Polyphemus moth caterpillars. I raised them over the summer.

Here's the fact: when you shake a stick on which a half dozen big fat green mature Polyphemus moth caterpillars are hanging, they click their teeth loudly enough to be heard. They don't like that.
