Just ran it at the Dempsey. Took the lead right from the start and never relinquished it. Like a sir.

THE DEMPSEY SUCKS. sure he hit the auto time and solo'd it - but he got it by LESS THAN 2 seconds. I'd like to see him try to do it on the same type of track they race on at NCAA's - doesn't that make sense. These oversized tracks are an embarrassment - they should have adjusted standards.
I agree, these oversized tracks have a lot of disappearing or nonexistent curbs that skew times over the long distances, not to mention the other advantages of an indoor track with wider turns.
On another note, Bolota Asmerom sucks, give it up bro, you were good 10 years ago, get a job.
Had a 47 mph tailwind- hurricane at their backs. No curbs, no hills, not mud, no downed trees, no stream crossings, no panhandlers holding out signs that say "NO OVERSIZED TRACKS- ANYTHING HELPS-BRING BACK 120Y PLYWOODIES!!!"

it makes sense to take advantage of the situation, he'll be ready at nats
NCAAs last winter on a 200 meter banked track.

Guys are just faster these days. 9 guys under 13:38 when the fastest Dempsey time was Heath in what 13:37?
In trainers??
Rumor has it he did this in the middle of a 200 mile week
In D3 everything is converted to a 200m flat track, so for qualifying there is a time penalty assessed for running on a banked track and a larger penalty for an oversized track. Likewise, if you run on a short track you get a bonus. To see what I mean check here:
http://www.raceberryjam.com/indexid.html
So in the 5k, there is a 5.5 second penalty for running on an oversized track. Does D1 not do this? I don't get why they wouldn't, given that they convert altitude times.
give him a break - just because he isn't running sub 13:30 in January doesn't mean he sucks. He's probably better than most of the people on letsrun.com...i mean seriously, not every runner in the US is a sub-13:30, sub-28, sub-2:12 guy. Even if i wasn't crazy fast, if i had an opportunity to compete and race at the Dempsey I'd take it.
on the other hand matt petersen of cal sucks...i mean i'd let a guy running 15 mintues for a 5k on my team, but i wouldn't take him all the way up to Seattle to run against sub-14 guys, and run 15:08
there is a conversion for Div 1 tracksI know in the 5k standard on a 200m track is 13:50over 200m or banked 13:47under is 200m is 13:53These may not be exact but are very close

Just 2 seconds off his outdoor best. I wonder if he can beat the indoor Canadian record this winter... But that record is pretty good...
nice job cam! you're running very well right now!
all you haters, keep hatin'. wouldn't it be nice to be that fast
And Cam follows it up on Saturday with an NCAA leading 3000m

They DO have adjusted standards. thats why he only got the qualifier by 2 seconds:
5000 Meters
(Under 200m/220 yds)* 13:50.90
(200m/220 yds or less)* 13:48.40
(Banked or Over 200m/220 yds)* 13:44.60
Having a hard time reading thoroughly?
"(Banked OR Over 200m/220 yds)* 13:44.60"
--- Therefor, a 200m banked track uses the same qualifying standard as a 300m track.
-Cam is a fast runner - there's no denying that - and I hope he runs well at NCAAs, but like a previous poster said, like in D3, it makes sense to have different qualifying standards for these huge tracks. Why doesn't that make perfect sense?
He hit the auto, but by only 2 seconds - he ran 8.3 LESS laps than he would have had to on a 200m track - surely that makes a difference. 8 laps is certainly significant.
-Just trying to point out the problems w/ not having a different qualifying time for 200m vs. 300m track - hope all the best to Cam himself.
I eat Cam's girl for lunch.
