List of Small Cheap Marathons?

I'm running Athens, Ohio on April 1st.

It's flat and not many people running it and it's also cheap.

Hartford is a decent 2,500ish person race, there is an HM that goes off the same time with a lot more people, but the marathon is pretty well run I think, $85 if you preregister is relatively cheap for a marathon these days.

Our Glass City Marathon here in Toledo has a surprisingly nice suburban course and us very cheap. Total marathon/half/relay participation is capped at 6,000. And if you're a sub-2:30 type you won't be all alone.

Chicago is one of the most logistical friendly marathon around. Though it is not cheap.

Boston, yes you take a bus.

Lakefront marathon in Milwaukee typically gets very good reviews for organization, price, and size. It's open for registration right now and WILL sell out.

I second the Hartford race, pretty flat course for new England and its well supported. The turn around at 16m is annoying but it's the only complaint about the course minus the bridge at 25m since I was destroyed at that point and a curb looked like a wall. Plus the last couple years the weather has been perfect.

Green Mountain Marathon in South Hero, Vt

The fee went up to $50 for this fall's race. It usually gets 300 or so running in the full marathon and it started a half last year that I think drew 150. Despite the small size the race has been run for a number of years, this year is the 42nd running.

I have not run it yet but it gets excellent reviews on marathon guide.

I have not run this one, but it's $85, Lancaster County is a cheap/nice place to visit, and they appear to have their act together as far as organization goes.

Also, I have run this one in Huntsville. Organization is outstanding, and it's $50 if you register early and goes up to $80 or something come race day/week.

Greenway Marathon in Nashville (March 25, 2012) is only $20 (up to March 21). It's small and course is certified. I have not run this one but the HM I ran last fall that was orgnized byt the same running club was very well run. Great hotel rate too.

Alaska has some cheap, small, and fun marathons too. Am considering about doing a summer one there.

The Heart of America marathon held on Labor Day in Columbia, Missouri is just $25 registration.
