He discusses it about half way through the post. His blog is also one of the funniest things I've ever read, I would highly recommend reading through it.

...Gerry Lindgren
He's funny!!
He's crazy and not in the cute way.
He's also slow. Why run so much? Why not focus on quality? My first thought was, "who is Rob Watson and who would compare him to Mo Farah?" I've got a guy in my neighborhood who ended his week with a local 100-miler, giving him 183 for the week. Should this be newsworthy?
Who
Oh god no, please just let this thread die.
slow as in 8:20's in the steeple?
Slow as in raced to the last 100m with Cam Levins at national XC? Last time I checked, the NCAA lacks an American who can do this. Before you reply, Chris Derrick did not. He's a marathoner. Look at the mileage Canova's athletes do, and you'll find that this is normal. Also, 8:20 steeple.

To be fair, I wouldn't say the guy's slow. Ok, I had to search him. I live in the UK so don't know many of the US runners. But I checked out his times:
3000m Steeplechase 8:27
5000m 13:40
Marathon 2:16:17
Mo ran 13:26 to win the WC's. So the guy's not miles off.
Anyway, that's aside from the point that I do agree that 180+ miles p.wk is not helpful.
He probably forgot to convert his GPS from KM to Miles. Not the sharpest tool in the shed.
"For example; my last 7days I have run 182miles, 182miles! That is 292kms! That just isn't smart, not smart at all! (oh man, sorry coach, I am totally getting an e-mail over this!) I was hoping to eventually get in some 160+mile weeks, but 182 right off the bat!? Not cool man. And if ya know me than you know what I'm thinking right? Yeah, 292km is nice, but a 300km week would be cool, and than hell 300km is pretty damn close to 200miles, so why the hell not!? I'll tell ya why the hell not! Because that nonsense is a slippery slope man, and much like a literal slippery slope, if I go down it there is a hell of a good chance that I'm breaking my friggen leg in the process. So like I said before, I need a distraction."
relevant quote from the blog post, since people seem to not have read it before discussing it.

Try the last mile, maybe. Oh, and over a year ago when Cam wasn't as fast.
Gerry lindren ran up to 400 miles a week. Get on his level.
He says most of his miles are in the 6:30 range. I bet if, instead of running 180 at that pace, he ran 90 at 5:40 pace, he would get a stronger stimulus.
look what happened as a result of his 182 mile week injury and cross training. stupid move to run that much, he even knows that. You can't question his passion and dedication.
Yeah, not very smart at all, I hurt myself and I'm not fast yet either. Lame. Now let's let this thread die.
thanks for sharing pete. hows virginia?
That lactic acid bit was lame but I kind of dug the manic meets loneliness of a long distance runner vibe of the blog. I think all of us can relate to the fractured internal monologue during long runs thing.
those would be...women's shoes. idiot.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
