not saying bayers not good but he hasnt shown anything that says hes as good as last yr let alone 10 seconds better than last yr. My predictions is he will run 7:50-53 Besides he even said in the article it wasn't really a collegiate record attempt just an overhyped race. Itll be a fast race tho with good times but not a collegiate record.
I heard some kid with a Prince Albert will be pacing.

Just another reason why college track and field gets no respect. Why talk about a collegiate record, when conditions are just not there to accomplish this. This is like getting excited about some BB player getting 20 foul shots in a row. There is no story when the result is nothing special, is there? The guy didn't even win, for God's sake....

This has nothing to do with why t&f gets no respect, but it is kind of a silly prediction. Why do inidana guys go for it so early in the season?

I stand by my comment. It is silly to pretend a pretty tough record is going to be broken and then nothing. Almost as bad as not showing up for a meet. Or having the head football coach of the Jets predict that they will win the Super Bowl. Just childish blowing in the wind. Track deserves better.
turner needs to do less talking on social networks about former teammates and start training harder

More of a silly article than a silly prediction.
Bayer just said they wanted to go out and try to run fast, and the article turns that into a record attempt. Even in the article the IU guys said they are just getting back into racing. Kinda ridiculous.
Yeah don't blame Bayer. The journalists want to elaborate every story dealing with track probably since they don't know or care about that sport. Every multiple state meet champ in high school gets at least one article with the word "Olympics" in it.
Jeezus I have to cover a track meet? Oh this guy was 3 seconds from the record last year. I'll center it on that.
If IU ws hlf as good as Helmer says they're going to be, you would have a group that would rival old arkansas teams. Instead, one is left to wonder how good they will be once Chapmans recruits are done and a lucky transfer from Cornell don't fall into his lap.
Bayer got put in a tough spot. The rabbit was like eight seconds slow at the mile mark, and the second rabbit never got into position to take the lead.
Indiana is still training hard, so I doubt Bayer was fresh enough to do it all by himself without a pacesetter. Helmer treats these races as workouts, to the guy asking why IU runs early.
The first heat, which was won in 8:11, came through the mile a little faster (4:19 low) than Bayer's heat (4:19 high). Really a shame.
They'll probably run the 3,000 again at the February home meet, as they had a fast 3K at that meet last year to get Poore and Hubers into NCAAs.
A 7:58 is never a workout unless you are a 7:30 runner. That is a race. I understand that these IU runners might just be training through this meet, but what people always question Helmer for is his tendency to push runners too hard too early. It is difficult for collegiate runners to keep fitness up through March, April, May, June, and July when they are blasting a 7:5x in January.
In case you are wondering the collegiate record is
7:38.59 by Alistair Cragg.
Us collegiate record 7:44.69 by Rupp.

My point exactly. I understand how some reporters with zero track and field knowledge write stupid articles, but it is the responsibility of the coach and or athlete to correct any misconception. Our sport does not need this kind of "stupid" headline grabbing misinformation. Look at the nice hype the Texas A & M vs LSU meet is getting. It is about the competition, not the marks that highlight that article (as it should be at this time of the season).

I remember when Cragg and Willis traded the record back and forth. Those were the days!

Either extremely funny post or extremely stupid.
