Seriously, why did Nike stop making it? I've seen more glowing testimonials about this shoe than ANY other besides maybe, maybe the NB 790.

Too many fatties in the world. The Skylon is a narrow show, built for skinny runners. The Nike Free line that replaced it are more adaptable to the ever widening American foot.
Does Nike think we don't know it's the most requested shoe by their elites? They still make a few pair every year so they don't have to destroy the mold (due to patent laws they have to make a few or destroy the mold) so they're out there. They just almost all go to the elites or are impossible to find.
Nike no longer makes the Skylon despite what you've heard. Any that are still out there on the road came from that particular runner's stash from several years ago.
Nike's Elite athletes are switching over to the new Zoom Elite 6 as many of them were very involved in the testing and development of the shoe. Zoom Elite 6 is an ounce lighter than Zm Elite 4 and the same weight as the Skylon.
It's never easy to see our favorites change or go away, but it happens. Hang in there and give some new shoes a chance.
Didn't Nike put Skylon on hibernation at some point over the years? I recall it disappearing here and there over the last 20+ years. They also changed it to Heyward to bringing it back the last Zoom version of it. I thought Heyward really was the pinnacle of Skylon series. Light cushioning done just perfectly. That shoe was so responsive.
"Too many fatties in the world." I think this is true. Last revision of the Skylon really was featherweight with lot less cushioning but it rode like a porsche. It didn't help that shoe look very "gay" so avg. people wasn't going to buy it just to as a casual shoes like Lunarglide.

Really?
Rare run on the pavement today for me and took out my Zoom Skylon for a run. Put in 10 miles on it. Probably the best run I've since starting to run again. I think at most I have 150 miles left on that shoes. I will have to treasure it for special occasions especially if new Zoom Elite turn out to be a disappointment.
I used the Skylon for my intermittent runs over the last 2 years. I was just running once in awhile and I think my running form was horrible. Sometimes running maybe once every 2 to 3 weeks. During those runs, the shoes really wasn't that good. Very little cushioning to support the pounding and flabby running form. I actually had to use Vomero and Lunarglide during last 6 weeks of serious running (50 mpw). Now that my leg is turning over much better Zoom Skylon really rides very smoothly. This really is the shoes for neutral runner. I am hoping Zoom Elite will be a good replacement.
I went through 15 pairs of the last model of the skylon. Man, that thing was absolutely perfect. It was the healthiest stretch of running I ever had, too. I'd honestly pay $200 a pair to have that thing back.
Also a huge Skylon fan. Compared with the foam slabs they produce now those must have cost much more to manufacture.
Loved the Skylon more than any shoe I have ever worn. Man, c'mon Nike. I would purchase that shoe for the rest of my life. Bring it back Nike!

Yeah, I never ran in the Skylons, but I really liked the Hayward 3. I still have two pairs that I wear around occasionally, but not as much for running.

Veronica Corningstone: "No, there's no way that's correct."
themanontherun: "I'm sorry, I was trying to impress you."
What contributes to a shoe looking "gay?"
There is nothing that I have found to be a replacement for the Skylon. I need this show back! The 361 Sensation looks close. Anyone have any other suggestions?
There are numerous shoes on the market that are very very similar to the old skylon, the kinvara or mirage by saucony, or the new breskthru, then you have the asics gel lyte 33, the puma faas 400, skechers gorun, nike zoom fly .
The Skylon was perfection.

This is not true.
I actually loved the Zoom Drive (short lived shoe, perfect fit on my particular foot) but alas. at least i still have a few (2 or 3?) pair of skylons in the box, as well as 4 pair that each have around 100-150mi on them, and are doing fine. I prob still use them once or twice a month, truly was a great shoe. the zoom elite is/was good, but it's no skylon.

A few people have quoted my comment in this thread about the mold being incorrect. I got that info from a friend who headed up a running camp where Ritz was one of the guests that week. He supposedly heard it from Ritz. I'm not sure whether he was misunderstanding what Ritz told him or whether it was just wrong. Either way, I suspect you all are correct and my information was bad.
