If you are a virgin is that looked down upon? I would love for my wife to be a virgin.
I would assume women would appreciate their husband to be a virgin too. Perhaps I am naive.
Thoughts?

Not being a virgin until marriage is abnormal. 70% of people wait until marriage. My wife and I waited and it was the best thing we could have done. FYI, if you have oral sex, you're still technically a virgin, but it's cheating.

Maybe back in your day, but these days nearly 50% have sex before graduating high school. I think people just don't value virginity like they used to, it is much more normal and accepted to have sex at younger ages, and so within this paradigm I wouldn't say it's looked down upon but you just look kind of weird if you're not participating. "If there's nothing wrong with it, and it's enjoyable, and you're not doing it, why not? Is something wrong with you?" I think is the attitude. Of course many people won't actually hold it against you or anything, but they'll be thinking those kind of thoughts somewhere in there head.
It's looked down on for men to be one but preferred for women. If you're Christian than it's acceptable for both.
Personally I am a Christian. I did not mention that because I thought that would scew results and I want the general opinion of society.
I also feel like 70% of people do not wait.
People are getting married later and having sex earlier. In 2002, 95% of interviewees reported having premarital sex.
I think it would only be looked down on if said virgin was proselytizing. Otherwise, most people wouldn't care.

"If there is nothing wrong with it, and it's enjoyable, and you're not doing it, why not? Why not?? I would argue people should not just participate in something that is "enjoyable" without realizing there can be consequences. Perhaps that is part of the problem. People just want to do what is "fun" and "enjoyable" without accepting the responsibility that goes along with sex.
Sex might be fun, but can lead to sexually transmitted diseases, pregancy, and cause emotional issues if one person views it as just sex and the other person involved actually is in love. If an unwanted pregnancy occurs, it is life altering. Either the young woman has a baby that both parents aren't prepared to handle, has an abortion - which means killing an unborn child, or giving the baby up for adoption. While adoption is perhaps the best option, that solution opens up another set of potential problems.
You're abnormal if your a virgin at 25. Either you're deeply maladjusted or a religious nut.

Plenty of the latter in the US, probably quite a few of the former too :/
I was glad my wife was pure. I'll never have to shake another guy's hand who used that same hand to spank my wife or walk in a room and see other guys smirk at the thought remembering my wife in a sexual act with them.
What a gift she gave me.

You are correct, even if the haters attack this post.
I never wanted to be with a virgin, and I still would never want to be with a virgin. All this talk of purity and gifts is a bit nauseating. It's nice when a new lover has an idea of what she's doing. I wouldn't want someone who'd had a gazillion partners, but, you know... a few is fine, even preferable.
If I was a virgin I would want a virgin. But since I am not I would think it unfair to prefer a virgin.

I do agree with you and that would be great to find. But in todays world it is just not realistic. I am not going to not date a girl because she had sex before, I would be limiting myself big time and might miss out on something great.
Also, I'm sure your wife dated other guys and probably did plenty of other stuff that they can smirk about. Unless you are dating a girl who has never had a boyfriend and lived secluded guys are always going to have memories of the women we date/marry. Get over it, that's life.

That's cool but were YOU a virgin?

Until you corrupted her soul.
Most people just can't handle not having sex before marriage. It's too hard for them.
I agree with the above poster that said that it's a great feeling knowing you don't have to look at any other guy and think "he has participated in the most intimate thing that exists, with my wife."

Do you realize you're posting on the LRC message board? Most people here can't handle not imagining having sex before marriage.
I respect this.
