There are 2 or 3 men in front of him right now that could keep him from making the 10k team. Not to mention a few others.
Fire Salazar. Go back to what works, or quit.

Ritz was ninth in Beijing, Hall was tenth.

He's a great time trialer at those races, but if he wants to win something he's best off working at the marathon until he gets it right. Unfortunately he might have to settle for the former this time around.
But lots of guys who are aerobic beasts never "get the marathon right". They have great engines but their gas tanks are too small. The 10th in Beijing was nice, but let's face it, the Olys aren't NEARLY as deep as a major due to the three-athlete limitation.
I'd say it's 50/50 that Ritz DNFs. This just isn't his event. That's not a knock or a criticism, just a conclusion reached from available data.
Go Desi, Go!
So tired of Kenyan born athletes.
Hastings has caught back up with the group of Flanagan, Goucher and Davila. Hastings has taken the lead.
5:07 for men in mile 22 so slowest in race.
that is 5:00, 5:01, 5:07 last 3 miles. Each the slowest in the race. Even if they keep up 5:10s they will make the team. There is not enough time left for the others to catch up unless they drop to 5:30s. But the chasers only need 1 guy to blow
here's hoping he hangs on for a sub 2:09

Famous runner here. Before I run today I just wanted to thank you trolls for all the pre-trials support. When I finish, I'll be making a K sign with one hand, and an L with the other, it's a tribute to the Kip Litton thread which was my inspiration. Troll on, letsrun.
Who is in the top 10 mens and women?

Hall was born at altitude, dummy.
How do you figure? Kirkland, Washington, is at an altitude of 75 feet above sea level. Sea level.
Best day of 2012...
Olympic marathon trials in the morning
2 playoff football games in the afternoon/evening
Big Head Todd concern at night
Hastings threw down a big surge and is still in the lead.
Amy Hastings to the lead now and pushing it. She had dropped off earlier but it was apparently just a bad patch.
Amy Hastings is surging in the lead now, wow
The leader men are slowing down. Is there any chance of somebody in the second pack making a surge and catching them?

the leaders would have to average 530/mile to be caught

Indeed. Can we FINALLY agree that Salazar can't coach the marathon?
no
