People need to realize how epic this is. There is still a long way to blow up but if Ritz can stay under 2;08:47 pace, he'll become the 5th fastest American in history and the 2nd fastest American born runner in history as he'll lose to the 3 guys ahead of him plus Khannouchi.
He'll also be the fastest american runner in history not born at altitude.
Altitude matters.
Hahaha, you need to realize that IF Ritz finishes (which I doubt), it will be a 2:10+ time.
fantastic !!! post some more please

No, he'd still be behind Hall.
Ritz can most likely finish closer to the medals in the 10,000m than in the marathon and as a bonus, if he runs the 10,000m he recovers in time to run world HM champs again.
American born = racism cloak
who cares if you were born here. its not enough that abdi and meb run there guts out! f u buddy
Brett Goucher ??? Freudian slip?

Hopefully this will be enough for him to finally fire Salazar. Either go back to Hudson or retire, Ritz.

Why do all you idiots think every runner that doesn't WIN the race is just "time trialing" it? That's just stupid.
I am not, but I am saying Ritz is only good for time trials at those distances.
Also, Ritz has SAID THIS HIMSELF too.

10th in the olympics wasn't enough to convince you he can run a fast marathon? it sure seems to have been sufficient for him and i highly he doubts what you think.
What the hell does running a 2:12 in a 2:06 race have to do with being able to run a fast (as in competitive in international races) marathon?
Hall was born at altitude, dummy.
Nobody's going to break 2:09. yaaaaawwwwwwwnnn.
Women 5:20 for mile 16. Hastings falling back a bit.

It ain't over till the skinny boy sings.
21 in 5:01 and Ritz falling further behind. Wejo, are the leaders struggling or are they relaxing? When do they start duking it out for the cash? Will they?

Obviously true for Ritz, but didn't Hall move to altitude. I don't believe he was born in Big Bear, was he?
Mile 21 5:01 slowest of race.
2:07:59 pace reportedly
Ritz 29 seconds back according to race organizers so if he can maintain and one of top 3 slows a little he could do it but seems unlikely as he has been going the wrong direction.
Womens pace has picked up 5:20 for mile 16 which would be fastest of day if accurate.
Some of us follow other runners too, not just the Olympic Trials winners....tard!

Because Ritz doesn't have the 400m speed to kick in 5k/10k championship races. He's a great time trialer at those races, but if he wants to win something he's best off working at the marathon until he gets it right. Unfortunately he might have to settle for the former this time around.
But lots of guys who are aerobic beasts never "get the marathon right". They have great engines but their gas tanks are too small. The 10th in Beijing was nice, but let's face it, the Olys aren't NEARLY as deep as a major due to the three-athlete limitation.
I'd say it's 50/50 that Ritz DNFs. This just isn't his event. That's not a knock or a criticism, just a conclusion reached from available data.
2:26:45 projected time for women right now.
