I think he would have a good chance of making the team- he would have been good for sub 2:10 in a paced race on a good course so had the wheels and was a great racer.

I would say 2nd or 3rd would be probable.
Frank would win because he would totally intimidate the competition.
Tom
He'd tie for the win with whoever it was that did not under-perform on the day.
He would miss the start after his lecture on the doping problem in the sport went long...
last.
He would finish last, in 5 hours and 47 minutes.
I heard Frank today in the media room. VIdeo here:
Video here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftX0ybZG5as#t=74
I've tagged the video to start at the right point. 1:14 in he says: "Bill and I were running 2:09 pace in 76 and we got so far ahead and just backed off....If you're smart enough and fit enough to be out there with a lead you're not going to press it."
Now Frank's pr is 2:10:30. I thought he also said he went out in 1:03 or 1:04 that year. 1:03 seems way fast.
I remember reading that Kenny Moore said that he felt Frank was capable of taking two minutes of Derek Clayton's 2:08:33 at the '76 Olympics, but that the rain hindered him.
Can't be done. I tried the same trip one night in college in '72. All I've had since are bad flashbacks.

I heard Frank mention in past interviews that his foot was giving him problems during the '76 race and he had lost fitness between the trials race and Montreal.
He was in peak condition for the trials race and was confident that he would easily beat Cierpinski had they raced on that particular day.
He very well might make the team. Same with Bill Rodgers.
I believe he'd definitely win. Shorter is the best marathoner in the American history, followed closely by Rodgers, Meb, KK, and Hall.
He went out in 1:03 in Fukuoka 72 right after the Olympics and held on and ran his PR. If you watched the 76 trials, which were held 2 months before the Olympics, you would agree that him and Bill would have run 2:09 if they would have pressed to the line, but they did back off. It's unfortunate he lost a second gold to a doped up East German who he didn't even know. I agree it's a different game internationally, but I believe the only American runner now who would be hard for him to beat in his prime would be Ryan Hall. The Let's Run generation of runners owe a great debt to Shorter for what he did to help popularize running and to phase out shamatuerism and enable elite runners to earn respectable livings as professionals. Shorter never ran Boston in his prime because by most accounts they would not even spring for a plane ticket for the Olympic Champion to run there.
cierpinski beat me... ryun fell down... boo hoo hoo
In don't believe Frank ever whined about Cierpinski. It is a fact that he did dope. I wonder if you would whine if you saw your Olympic gold medal go up the road in the body of a doped up East German.

It is not a fact. It was never proven. Strong evidence, yes.

Uh that again wrote:

The only evidence is that the whiner Frank Shorter said so.
Anyone who would do anything to steal a victory that he did not earn, and disparage someone who did, is a vindictive unscrupulous cheater.
I think he'd win.
Speaking of vindictive. Did Shorter beat you in a race at some time. You certainly seem to be making these comments in a vindictive manner. As for evidence that Cierpinski doped, wasn't his name on doping records that came out of East Germany?
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Rest in Peace Adrian Lehmann - 2:11 Swiss marathoner. Dies of heart attack.
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
I think Letesenbet Gidey might be trying to break 14 this Saturday
