Is Matt Sr. really running Millrose at age 50+?
I can't believe that he is but this article says he is.

Maybe his dad's team is competing there?

I think he is refering to his sister competing there and his father being there to watch. Have you seen Centro Sr. recently? I love the guy, but there is no way he is running milrose.
Poorly worded article...

ha. gotcha.
Yeah, easy to misconstrue with the way it was worded, but no way did he mean Dad was running.
If you have any idea who Big Centro is, and I would have thought that Rojo did, then there is no way on earth you think he is going to compete on the track. Ivey league guys, no sense.
Ivey?
It is obvious that Centro is speaking about his sister competing and his father attending the meet.
Millrose was cancelled due to lack of interest.
Trust me, you'll see Papa Hemingway running at Pamplona before you see Papa Matt running at Millrose.
Ha, yeah the surprise about Matt Sr running is definitely that he is 50+..not that he is 250+ lbs that is, and that might be generous. He is far more likely to be pounding carbombs at Coogan's down the street than hitting the track at the Armory

That's how it's spelled in the article, entirely reasonable to follow Monti's precedent.
I am a terrible iPad typer.

Matthew was, of course, referring to his sister Lauren running the 1500m at Millrose and his father being there to watch them both. I got the quote accurately, even reading it back to Matthew on the phone, but it is an admittedly awkward sentence.
Nonetheless, journalists shouldn't modify what people say because that can be a very slippery slope...

I would love to see an all-star event like the old timers games the Yankees used to have with everyone from the past. But running isn't baseball. It was bad enough to watch an idol like Salazar running 14:30 5k's when he was 30.

If you knew what he meant, then you either misquoted him, or intentionally mislead everyone who was reading it. Journalist do not have to be irresponsible, modifying what someone says is not the same as clarifying what he said if you knew it was wrong. You lied to everyone in the article you wrote.
Laughing my ass off envisioning Centro Sr. in his current form lacing 'em up with no training and going for it at the Armory. He would have been all balls out there, tough guy that he is, which would have made it even more hysterical. Yeah, you don't want to see legends embarrass themselves in general - the better you were, the easier it is to embarrass yourself out there, and he is a bona fide legend. However it can be hilarious at the same time.
Trying to think a few years back to my GMAT training about proper reference of "who" to nouns....but either way you gotta go with the actual quote of course.
