Looks like he'll be debuting at the full Olympic tri distance on Sunday.

Eligibility rules are lame. LV has represented team USA at the junior level but he is not yet an American citizen? How does that work?
"Can't wait!"
Uh oh, didn't the Jets use this for a rally cry last year and it not work so well. Hopefully LV revives the cry.
Kinda sad that his first official "10k" will not be on the track (or XC).
(Sad for running fans)

ITU rules allow for this. IOC rules do not.
It is highly unlikely that he would be able to make the Olympic team so selection is not really an issue.
But a non US citizen gets to train at USA Triahlons "new elite training facility"?
Who cares want this kid does. He knows nothing about team. They should deport him back to his own country.
All tri run courses are short though so it'll be more like 9.8 km.
If he qualifies for the olympic team will be leave the team 10 days before games to pursue his passion in bowling?
I think we all need to move on from the Lukas V threads - he's done. Better to focus on guys actually in the sport.

Lucas is already a citizen...
Lukas is not yet a US citizen and is unlikely to become one before the London games. Under ITU rules a non-citizen can represent a country if they have not previously represented a different country. The ITU rule does not supercede the Olympic rule requiring citizenship.
Here's a good explaination of the situation as written by Phillip Hersh:
I hope to God he fails big time in Argentina and comes crawling back to Oregon begging for forgiveness! When is this guy going to pay for what he did? He got away with totally screwing people over at UO and now is using the system to line his own f@cking pocket! What a Mega-Ftard!!!
Who gives a crap what LV does - if he wants to do Tri's so what? God you people are childish, really, this is what makes LRC such a juvenile place. Centro also let his team down by going pro - he could have helped the team win NCAA, he's chosen not to for money. Besides it's just Oregon anyway, it's not a real school like Stanford or Virginia or even Cornell.
Just to make sure everyone is clear, this is an ITU Continental Cup race. There are essentially 3 levels on the Elite circuit in triathlon (ITU triathlon, that is).
1) Continental Cups - the lowest level, where all Elites must start. The goal here is to gain points to qualify for the more competitive races.
2) World Cups - are extremely competitive, generally pulling in a few of the best athletes in the world, but not all. Again, you can earn points in these races that help you reach the next level.
3) WCS (World Championship Series) - this is the top of the top. Until you are competing here, you aren't racing the best. This is the level where the Olympians are racing.
I only point this out because LV will likely place pretty high in La Paz. It's not the most competitive race, even on the Continental Cup level. I expect him to gain a decent amount of points and begin to move up the US ranks. If/when he starts racing in World Cups/WCS events, we'll be able to actually see how he fares against the best in the world.
Go get em' Lucas!...wow...19 and competing with the tri big dogs...what talent!...I wish you the best!!!!
Thanks...good to know.
I congratulate him on ducking competition and participating in a made up sport that's only open to 1%ers.
+1
