looks like hes gone back to his 07 running form with the whole arm waddle. and he is noticeably bigger, looks like he's back on the weights (which might not be a bad thing) and his leg mechanics are definitely different since the last time he ran, dont know if thats because of the spikes he's wearing (matumbos) arent getting him up on his toes but i will say that while he was with alberto his form looked a lot cleaner in the lower region and more sound.

im not saying its bad that he went back to his old form but lets hope he stays uninjured because he's gone from forefoot under alerto (at least while wearing victories) back to heelstriking like he did before alberto (but in matumbos). maybe looking like 07 alan will bring back his 07 form. i will say though he seemed rather upbeat in the interview and postive, but it couldve been just for show.

do we have confirmation though that he is definitely working with vig right now even though vig left uva?

The splits were 65/50? If so, then that is not bad at all.

Even more impressive was that the 65 was done while eating a JBC and the 50 was done while eating a Baconator![/quote]

He got distracted reaching for fries in his waistband, that's why he got passed on the back stretch.

He looks much bigger than in the past. Not lean. He's got 4 months to shed some weight and get into 3:35 shape. Not looking very good at this point. He should move up to the 5K

I don't think he will PR again at a distance below 3K. Those days are gone. I don't know what his distance base is but he should focus on the 5k, perhaps the 10k if he wants to make the Oly team.

His splits were nowhere near 65 and 50. Based on that video I had him going through in 57 and than finishing in 58. Granted an even split 800 range suggests that he could have run faster but I would be inclined to believe 1:51-52 would be pushing it.

He has about 6 months to get in peak shape. Is that enough time?

If you or anyone really believed he ran 65/50 before watching the video, you are idiotic.

He looks like he needs to lose 15 pounds. That's the most disturbing thing here. That fact leads me to believe he really won't succeed this year.

Why? Guys can drop 52-53 second at end of 10,000m races (so 50 seconds for the second lap of an 800 isn't unreasonable off of a 65) and I have seen national championship 1500 races go out in 2:11 so it is not unreasonable to assume that this meet went out slow as well. Obviously, it did seem ridiculous that a pro would race like that outside of a championship so I watched the video. I'm sorry I didn't pick up the sarcasm from an casual read through of a forum.
Also, why would you use idiotic? You should have said "an idiot" or "being idiotic". If you are going to attack my general intelligence than at least get it right yourself.

Webb has never been a pretty runner, and I actually thought he looked about normal in the video. Go watch the video of him running 3:46 - he has the same weird arm motion and almost-waddling gait.

he looks bigger in his upper body and his legs but nothing other than his 2007 (and prior) form which seemed to work for him.

i said this in the other thread but he looked very happy and relaxed in that interview which is not a good thing for the us competition come june/july.
all anyone has ever said is "it's all in his head" so if that dome of his is straightened out the running will be all candy.
look for 1:50 next month and then he gets turned loose come May.
also, who is his official coach????

Webb could end up being on the Oly team in the 1500. As a geezer, I remember Jim Ryun running a mile race in something like 4:30 in March of 1972. He won the trials that July with a sub 52 kick and then ran 3:52 mile before falling in the heats in Munich. Too bad about that, but it shows a guy can spring back to world class after being down.

Jim Ryun never looked like a wrestler in his entire career. Nor did he disappear from view for so long at the peak of his career. Webb can't make the team at 1500. Not possible. 5 or 10K possibly.

Meh, I remember in high school I was training my ass off all summer and entered a local 5k and got stomped by a bunch of random old dudes. It was humiliating, but by the end of the cross season a few months later I was running minutes faster in 5ks. And I am far, far, FAR from being an American record holder in the mile. Anyone's first race after a long layoff can be a disaster time-wise. From the interview, he seems to have it in the right perspective.
oh you so crazy
