more like a lump of coal
- 150 dollar race entry
- 250 dollar tattoo
- 100 dollar poster print of marathon finish
= priceless
The stamp is of his first marathon time ... And heres the kicker..... It was slower than 5 hours.
Getting those wings tattoos makes you a tool anyways, but you should at least be reasonably fast.... Not some slowpoke 5 hour marathon walker
I'm not sure why anyone would display the time, but I think the wings are actually pretty cool (I don't have any tattoos and don't plan on any).
Almost as bad as my college teammate who got the little mermaid in ink on this lower leg back in 91. I always wondered how hairy Ariel would be when the shave job the the tatoo wore off.
Oh god, r/running is hobby jogger paradise.
Not sure how you found this, but I'm sure glad you did. Made my effing day!

It may be, first time I ever visited the site, but this thread in your link seems like a typical letsrun answer to the guy's question:
http://www.reddit.com/r/running/comments/o2rq6/rrunning_i_need_your_help_i_have_a_running_blog/Tattoos and marathons have followed a similar progression in participation. In the 1970s, the only people who got tattoos were generally hardcore and grizzled people who either were working in the bowels of a navy vessel or were an oil rig worker. Likewise, in the 1970s, the people who ran marathons were hardcore runners who trained like animals and would only run a marathon in over 4 hours if they tore an achilles tendon en route. Now, every third kid on the campus quad at an exclusive East Coast private college has more tattoos than longshormen did in the 70s. And anyone who can buy running shoes and write a blog now runs 5 hour marathons and wants people to heap praise on them for their life changing accomplishment.

Yeah I know, and how they use "running" and "3x:xx 5k". lmfao
Well, yes, putting your marathon time on your leg, does seem silly to me. But then again, are there any tattoos that aren't silly? Not a tat person here.
I don't know if you guys are trolling or not, but I fail to see why that site makes you laugh. So... guess what some people are slow to you. I don't know why that is funny.
It's not the slowness - it's the utter lack of perspective and scale. Yes, everyone has different goals and different abilities, but I can't think of any other situation in life that would prompt adults to self-congratulate so totally out of proportion to any objective measure of success. "Guess what, honey? After 15 years in an entry-level position, I may get promoted to middle management!!!"
I completely agree with you. I don't get why joggers laud their "accomplishments" to everyone within earshot. I'm happy to talk about my own running to anyone who asks, but I never volunteer my PRs and/or training otherwise.

Are you kidding, did you not read these threads?! It's fracking hilarious!! He was talking about how his Five Fingers allowed him to break 30 minutes in the 5k!! How is that not funny? LOL!
When I saw the thread title, I thought, awesome, someone has found a cool old school race. And I wondered what one it was. Alas.
Guys, not everyone who runs has to be good at it, relative to the rest of the running world. I thought it was kinda refreshing to see a place where they are actually in love with running; the thing every one of us do. Does anyone else not get fed up with the typical 'Rupp is overrated', 'German is done', 'Hall is insane and Boston doesn't count' or 'LV has personally offended each and every one of us' type threads? Or the threads where someone may actually have a serious question and people just troll in response. Where is the happiness in any of this?
So what if their accomplishments are small? That is the problem with letsrun. The majority of posters seem to have this sense of entitlement. Where they got it from I have no idea.
'Thankfully, a website we can bash because the people on it are so much slower than we are!'
Furthermore, it wasn't even a blog type site where average runners are acting as elites and seeking attention. No. It was a thread between a group of similar minded runners, who were actually nice to each other.
Well, at least those people are proud. God knows if we had a system where everyone's PR was posted under their posts, the people on this board would be a lot quieter.
If it makes your day to see some silly tattoo or to read a post about people talking about running a 5k in 29 mins, then you must not have much going for you.
