1. He had an olympic coach as a high schooler
2. he had an altitude tent as a high schooler
3. he was pampered and given everything to him as a high schooler.
4. despite 1 - 3 he didn't FL
5. he wears a breathe right strip
6. the holes in his jersey

8. he was a professional athlete but still ran for oregon

it just so happened that salazar was the coach at the high school rupp attended, salazar was a high school coach, not an elite coach at the time, he had an altitude tent in high school because salazar had every kid on his team have one.

8,9,10, and 11 I can understand. I also know why 12 could get annoying.

What do 1-7 and 13 have to do with anything. Guy had an altitude tent and Olympic coach as a kid. Okay, why is that relevant? Or a problem?

I'm not a fan, or more accurately, a fanboy of Rupp. However, he is the fastest U.S. runner we have on the track right now and has been improving consistently. My interest in seeing U.S. distance running success if much greater than my dislike of some of the things Rupp has done and as such I do want him to run fast in races and enjoy seeing him do well and get faster.

1-4: Would you rather US HS runners have no access to quality coaching and equipment?
5-7: Does he have to wear cotton sweats and have a big Prefontain stache to be a great runner?
8-9: He nearly wrecked himself to get Oregon its first ever indoor track championship.
10: Are you saying that people should make the US team if they aren't the fastest?
11: Yeah, Keep Austin Weird and Keep Track Dull. At least he didn't do a throat slit.
12: 26:48 10k is nothing?
13: So, only Billy Mills and Bob Schul are worthy of praise? Haven't heard much talk about them recently.
14: Do you need a guy who looks like Bradley Cooper with a tribal tatoo to be the best US 10k runner in order to feel good about your sport? Bit insecure are we?

Thanks for posting this.

It's very nice to see athletes of his level being so giving to the comunities he visits. Makes me respect Rupp and Sal even more. Good for him for doing what's right.

I thought what Stuck wrote was actually pretty right on for his/her usual posts. To the other poster that he is the fastest US runner...Not! Might be the fastest at 10K but there are plenty of other distances to root for that are not afforded a blanket praise and $$$$ to get to a level that is still 30+ seconds behind the WR.

Agreed, how can you not love him? Not only did he run 26:48 (unreal), but he is a beam of light in a sea of dark (not that light is in any way better than dark!)...
