No one is tearing down Gauson, we're just questioning who he is and why are some promoting him for jobs he's not qualified for.

The kid may be good at bringing talent in to Butler, but what have they put out in terms of performances. My vote is for Sparks or someone else, that can actually bring this program out of the cellar of the Big 10.

"Kid" , tha'st insulting. But in that case I've seen plenty of "kids" out work "adults" that are on cruise control.

I am late to the thread, but I thought psycho passive-aggressive Matt Roe was the coach at Butler? I have never heard of Gausen or even noticed another coach working with Roe?

To ALL THE IDIOTS tearing Gauson down-
You are right, Darren Gauson is not ready to be a head coach at a Big Ten school...however, he is a great coach and recruiter. I have seen the work he puts in and some of the talent he brings into Butler is outstanding for that program. Seriously, if you havent seen some of that take a look yourself...they have a tremendous Distance/Middle Distance group for such a small school.

Give the man a break! Get off his back! Dont be jealous of the publicity he is getting due to this...go back to your NAIA school you ran for/ coach and give the man some credit.

Bud, it's easier to recruit when you're putting a majority of your total scholarships into distance. A school like Butler will have an easier time getting international kids too than Illinois. That's likely one reason why Kennedy left.

Matt Roe is the head coach, Gauson the assistant.
But you are spot on about Roe being psychotic!

Those mentioned previously would be the most logical for sure. But according to Mike Turk, Sparks didn't even apply when Kennedy was hired. Turk seemed a bit puzzled by that.

What's the deal happening at Clemson? They just posted for a sprint/hurdle/relay assistant, and for a jumps/multis coach. Anyone know what's happening in Death Valley?

Look, anyone who knows the Clemson head coach knows he is very, very difficult to work with, although he has done a fantastic job putting a highly qualified team together. The two assistant coaches who left may have been shown the door by the head coach but not sure on that one. I think the PV coach is headed to an ACC school, and the woman I'm not sure about yet.

So has illinois made a decision or are they still considering two finalists, whats the deal here? and if they are still considering do we have an accurate idea of who those finalists are?

Marc Burns? He coached at Loyola, went to Wichita State and is now at Bradley. He's got strong IL ties, so it only makes sense. I hope they go with Sparks.

Who are you talking about - Schirmer? He ran 4:17 in HS and only had one other D-I offer. He was a 2-time XC A-A and ran 28:40. But he couldn't have "ran great for any program", because no one else wanted him.

Dahleen ran 4:00 in the Mile Indoors, was the first one out of the NCAA 1,500m final this year, and broke the 50-year old school record in the 1,500m.

Sparks led the Men's XC team to numerous MVC wins, and from that also led the MVC in TF Distance points on many MVC TF team wins.

But obviously, Turk should have offered the job to Vin Lannana and Joe Vigil, before he interviewed any of these guys.
