why would Van Alstyne leave a director position to go become an asst?

Well, if this is even remotely true to begin with, I can see two scenarios/reasons:

1) Doesn't want to leave, but using the UNC position as leverage to get more scholarships, budgets and/or assistant coaches at North Florida

2) Really is interested in UNC because a) fewer hours than killing himself at North Florida trying to build a full program and manage a huge facility, b) higher pay at UNC to be distance coach than being Director at North Florida, and/or c) at UNC he would have a legit opportunity to get xc teams and track individuals to nationals every single year, and that just isn't the case at North Florida.

The ACC distance coaches are laughing their asses off right now. Don't have to worry about the heels.

Dave Milner is the new distance head at ETSU, I believe.

I believe that while that would be optimal for ETSU, it's not quite the case since the previous HC-in-waiting is no longer there.

Purdue always buries their announcements and you rarely find them in the normal places. They are only posted on purdue's home employment page.

Not many people know the name, but Mark's been coaching a long time. He will do a good job at UNC.

So if Mark Van Alstyne goes to UNC (obviously he has FL connections with Harlis Meaders who left Florida State), then who assumes the role at North Florida or would they just promote from within??

Who would be a frontrunner??

What salary would UNC distance coach get???

What was Mark making as the Director of XC/Track/ Assistant Athletic Director at UNF?? Was there 22 years...

Cost of living is about equal or maybe slightly more in Durham...

Definitely less to worry about as just a distance coach and heck, all the Tar Heels distance runners can do is improve...they haven't been decent since the late 80's/early 90's...

Then again, at UNF, all of his male recruits over the last few years have been either injured a lot or have been pretty stagnant in terms of improvement from HS...the girls have shown some improvement, so was he just recruiting better or not actually coaching them (was someone else)??

There is no way Sullie goes to Illinois.

A. He owns a running store in Tallahassee that is doing pretty well

B. His wife, Karen Harvey, used to coach at Illinois and didn't leave there on the greatest of terms.

If they are married, why does she still go by Karen Harvey and not Karen Sullivan?[/quote]

If this is a serious question, the answer is because we don't live in the 1940's. Many women, particularly professional women, keep their maiden names.

Etsu is in search of a new head coach from what I've been told. I wonder who are the candidates? Thought the kid coaching jumps would get the hc position. They should be pretty close to picking someone, August is right around the corner.

Is Kentucky going to keep their men's sprint coach. I heard the guy was working for without a college degree.
I heard he needed 18 hours to get one.

Anybody know what is going on at Portland State? Where is Kevin Jeffers going?

I'm also curious about the Colorado State opening?

Any info would be great.
