Matt Sparks of SIU might be had if Illinois will lift the salary a bit. However, all of the AD's hires seem to come from the MAC, but since most of them have cut their XC/Track programs that will be drying up.

However, Turk was impressed with the two foreign recruits Gavin got in for next year so apparently wants some foreign connection which would be good news for the Butler or Tulsa assistants.

Looks like any of you that were dreaming of Kentucky rising to dominance in Xc/distance, can forget it. Might be a good all around program though.

As a matter of fact, I have and further, have been to meets at both schools. At this point the national recruiting pull is much in the favor of Stanford. Stanford is also located in one of the most talent rich states for HS track and field.

Kentucky isn't really far enough south to take advantage of being in the speed rich portion of the US so Floreal will have a bigger sales job ahead of him than some would believe.

Good luck to him and LaVonna who is certain to like being closer to where she grew up.

Restoring the Cavs to distance strength is not hard. Restore them to a diverse, balanced, competitive track team, then we'll talk about how stable they are.

Sounds crazy, but Furman with full compliment scholarships and all distance coaches is going to kill.

If Robert Gary cannot win with the athletes he had at Ohio State, what makes you think Furman can become a legitimate national player? He was already a fairly suspect developer of talent, and now all the talent is going to be taken away from him.

Gary consistently let the best kids in Ohio leave the state for other programs while not drawing anyone from out of state. Let me know how South Carolina's fertile recruiting pastures go.

Isn't that the goal???? Have a great all around Track and Field program!! Not just distance geeks running around??? Cripes - Floreal will get it done at UK - and quickly. He is a tireless recruiter and works harder than anybody in the business! Of course he would leave Stanford for UK - Much better place hands down. Will be fun to watch in the next few years.

Actually, Robert did a pretty good job of keeping most of the better distance runners in Ohio (See, Leslie, Myers, Olingers, Fox, Roys) Getting people to go to a climate that doesn't ice over most of the winter should not be that difficult. Having a pro/post collegiate group there should prove to be another attraction.
However.....

.....it is still Furman. I am not saying it is impossible, but this is not going to be as easy as they think. If you are going to go to a private school in the South, Vanderbilt and Duke are much better options right off the bat.
