Agree 100%! That is the only reason I expect to see more out of a potential new head hire. Steele to me is not a shake-up. It's an uninformed hook-up.
Yes, Steele really has. It done much at UNI. I agree with the earlier poster who wrote that UNI is still a mid major and those. Ever will be consistently successful AND I believe Bucky (and Travis) left the cupboard bare. However, does no one remember Steele's success at Oregon? As associate head coach, wasn't he named national coach of the year? Did he not develop Eaton and Thiesen? The list of all those great coaches is just that...great...but I doubt many of them if any would take the Kentucky job.

Sorry, but you know nothing about track and field if you don't think many top coaches would jump ship to a highly funded SEC program Kentucky. There are NO bad jobs in the SEC (maybe Vandy). I don't mean to come off like I hate Dan Steele. I just really like Kentucky. Hell, I would take Ralph Mann from Louisville...
Name 1 assistant at Oregon with a bad resume. Oregon is Tracktown USA. If you can't sign and coach the world's best there you should officially retire from coaching. Plus, he was the associate head coach to Martin Smith. I wouldn't want Smith at UK either...
Believe it or not, I do know a thing or two about track and field. Perhaps I didn't make my point clear enough... Sure, a lot of great coaches would take on Kentucky. I said not many on the previous poster's list would take it. The SEC is brutal, and Kentucky has done nothing to show that it really wants to compete in that conference in any other sport but basketball. Without a serious commitment to track, the big guns on the list won't want to risk their careers. And since we do not know the salary or any of the details of the hire, Steele may be the best choice available. We can all second guess any hiring, but we don't have a clue what goes on behind the scene.
Hello Pot, may i introduce yiu to kettle?

All assistants gone
At Oregon, Steele lived off the recruiting efforts of several other Martin Smith coaches for his first four years..

Hahaha! I guess you have to be from Kentucky to understand the rivalry between the 2 in state foes (Mann was a joke). However I do respect him and the many other coaches I listed who have a track record of winning...

Agreed. If they do not want to make a serious investment in track/XC then I'm personally fine with any hire. I will continue to support them and all the other UK sports. I just selfishly want to see the AD step-up and make a program changin choice. I do know one thing. UK is not scared to spend big bucks on coaches in any sport.
Oh yeah, about the basketball only thing..,
2012 Men's Capitol One Cup(7th place overall)
2012 SEC Tennis Champs
2012 Men's Bball SEC & National Champs
2012 Women's SEC Bball Champs
2012 Baseball SEC Runner-ups
2012 Volleyball SEC Runner-ups
2011/12 Riffle National champs & NCAA runner-up
Football stinks, but pays the bills due to top 20 attendance & SEC
There are possibilities at UK, being in the SEC is a strong point. There are four elite members of the 2013 high school class within 150 miles of the campus. Tretez Kinnaird 1:49, Jacob Thomson, 4:10, 8:58, Jacob Burcham, 4:02, and James Quick 20.9, it is doubtful any of these attend UK especially Quick who will stay with football. There is talent in the area. For Dan Steele or any coach to be successful they will need very good assistants to recruit and coach the talent up.
Apparently there's been turmoil at ETSU. Any word on how that will turn out?
all of this can be said about every university that hasn't had success because they are a "football" or "basketball" school. what was texas a&m labeled? they had never won... they got a head coach that put in the time to be a winning program and now the dominate.
Difference is Pat Henry had won before as a HC.... Steele has only sucked as a HC.
WTF is going on at Virginia????

The previous UVa TF Staff Members were allowed to complete the year, but none were retained for 2012-13.

And A&M paid Henry big money to leave LSU. Then they invested in the program with assistants and a huge budget and told Henry to go build a winner. Not many "football or basketball" schools care enough to do what it takes to make track a winner. Is Kentucky one of those? I guess we will see.
turmoil is that Mike Curcio is getting the job. Director Babaaaay!

I thought the multi's coach was groomed to take over as head coach, and the belmont assistant was going to be the distance coach. What happened to all that?
