Sorry to be that guy, but why on earth would you hire Andrew at UVA??
I heard from an athlete there that Littlepage told the team that he is waiting until after the bowl game to begin the search and that the current (male) team members are essentially on their own right now with respect to training.
Horrible. Hey Craig, you're the athletic director, not just the football director!
Awesome hire, if confirmed. Valmon is the USA Track Coach for the 2012 Olympics for those of you that don't know.
Valmon has to get of that piece of crap school, Maryland.
I stopped by UMD the other day and asked to see Valmon.
They said he was traveling.
Probably interviewing.
Congrats to coach Valmon for his athletic and coaching career
Looking at his NCAA +12 years coaching resume I see not more then 2 All Americans that seem to be coached by his assistants
Overall his teams are averaging second to LAST in the Conference
Maybe I am wrong but that is A less than average performance. Not even 1% of Vig resume
Agree with everything you have there but Valmon is everything Vig was not.Excellent at admin, fundraising and politician. He also appears to have not dipped his pen where it shouldnt have been dipped. When will people figure out AD's dont care about performance with TnF they just dont want headaches.

Valmon is so excellent at admin, fundraising, and being a politician that his school cut his team and eliminated his job.
Excellent work.
Valmon got the Maryland job because he's a guy who has been handed cushy jobs by USATF despite the fact that he's never actually coached anyone of repute.
9 years at Maryland. 9 All-Americans. Averaging last or next to last in the ACCs every year. And yet gets named USATF National Team coach.
Prepare for the UVa track and xc team to start sucking. They should thank their lucky stars that Maryland eliminated track - as they would probably get beat by Maryland in the ACCs.
It looks like one school puts money into track and has enough scholarships to compete and one doesn't.

That's a pretty weak excuse for a guy who is suppossed to be a good coach.
Yes, Maryland had very little funding in terms of scholarships- but frankly, with all the resources at Maryland, with all the talent in the local area (from DC to Newport, VA) a guy who was a world class 400 runner with a 44.28 PR couldn't put together a 4 x 4 that breaks 3:10?
That's pathetic.
Look at his coaching bio on the UMTerps website:
http://www.umterps.com/sports/c-track/mtt/valmon_andrew00.htmlA whole bunch of stuff that is not related to him actually coaching athletes. Very little about his athletes accomplishments.
Instead you get a bunch of stuff about his own career (incredibly impressive, but irrelevant to his actual coaching duties when he's been there 9 years), a bunch of stuff about his community service, and a whole lot of crap about his USATF involvement.
All his USATF appointments seem honorary, he has no recognition for anything related to the athletes he actually coached. No coach of the year awards, etc. Oh, he got the sportsmanship award and the team with the highest GPA (men's XC) - which at Maryland, isn't very difficult considering their athlete's historical graduation rates.
He's never coached a guy under 21 sec in the 200. Only 2 guys have ever run under 47 seconds for the 400 under Valmon. No one under 1:50 in the 800.
This is the guy's wheelhouse, and he doesn't produce any athletes. Plenty of coaches with little or no scholarship money have produced athletes who can do that. Heck, there are HIGH SCHOOL coaches who don't have any scholarship money who produce better athletes.
But then again, those coaches are actually good coaches, not just a good guy living off the reputation of some medals and some cushy USATF appointments.
So now what for the distance guys and gals? Any good assistant available for Valmon to hire?
i don't think Valmon will be rocking C-ville inside and out
Being the 'Head Coach' of an international team means absolutely nothing, except that you're the head team manager. You don't actually coach ANYBODY, except the athlete(s) that you have on the team. Let me repeat, being the head coach means nothing but managing the team, that is all. It is mostly politics and ego petting!
For those of you who have no experience whatsoever with international teams, let me turn the light bulb on for you... if you are an athlete, and you make a Worlds/Olympic team, why would you be coached at this ONE meet by somebody who has no earthly idea what you have been doing to lead you to that point?
Did Valmon coach any of Georgetown's elites when he was there.
I know for a fact he did not apply and plans to stick with the current team at Maryland. Right now he is in the process of getting the group ready for the indoor season and also fundraising.
