2nd Quality day - Training schedule advice

I thought you said you can't do Tues/Thurs and now you're wanting to do Tues/Wed or Wed/Thurs?

I upper decked my grandmother over the Thanksgiving holiday.

Sunday: long

Monday: easy

Tuesday: easy double with your intervals

Wednestday: semi long

Thursday: easy

Friday: easy double with a tempo

Thanks but I'm stuck with intervals on Wed, that is when the indoor track is available. That is where this whole dilemma comes from.

You think double on hard days is better, that is reasonable.

Another option is doing long intervals on the road and ditching the track. Do them by time/effort or wheel them out. Either way, this is a pretty good substitute for track workouts, although it can be tough on winter roads. (And if the roads are in poor shape, intervals can be done on the treadmill, too.)

I make these alternate suggestions because even when I was younger, I couldn't recover well from back-to-back quality days, and doing them resulted directly in an injury at least once (and possibly other times that I can't be as sure of). I agree with the previous poster who said he didn't think it was a good idea for you to do either of the things you're planning on doing.

You should join a gym and do your intervals on a treadmill any time you can fit them in. I prefer the track too (and don't really like the treadmill) but it never works with my schedule.

Although everyone is different, I would discourage back 2 back hard days @ 44, I too am in my 40s (41 in less than a month) and have tried running hard 2 days in a row with less than stellar results - pulled hammie. Keep your Wednesday if you are comfortable on the indoor track, but also consisder running cross country for your intervals when the weather is even close to favorable. I try and avoid the track until spring time anyway; it's just too flat/boring. Treadmills are even worse IMHO. A park, a grass loop, a trail - all of these places are great spots to run hard. Thanks for your input, I have a group I run with on the track that keeps things interesting. I think I'm going to merge my Med-Long and MP and do it on Fri. I'll see how that goes for a while.
