persistent calf fatigue

A couple months ago I was in the best shape of my life, when all of the sudden my performances started going downhill. I noticed that the problem was related to my calves, and that they felt really weak whenever I went for a run. My calves have been weak and fatigued for nearly 3 months now and no one can seem to figure out what's wrong. There is no pain, just tightness and fatigue. Test for compartment syndrome was negative. I took 2 weeks off from running and the problem persisted when I tried to run again. I was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem.

What is your footwear lineup? I've had better luck using a traditional 10-12mm drop with a lower 6mm or less. If the tendons/muscle are past the soreness stage and feeling weak then your most likely dealing with high micro tears/scar tissue. Try 4 weeks in a traditional (wave rider, defyance) with foam/stick rolling. I even used a workboot with a high drop for everyday. Cut your stride length, do not reach.

I know the high heel/traditional drop is not popular...everyone regardless of fitness is different whenever you have tendon issues the surrounding muscles get weaker so the cast like isolation of a higher heel allows rest. This calf muscle/tendon issues may take a while. when controlled should have little to no pain/weakness then you could move into a lower drop to realize the benefits. I don't know if I would ever be in a lower drop exclusively though as the strength gains may not happen. Farah, Centro, Rupp they are always going from Frees(6mm or less) Spikes(-3 incline) Pegasus's (10mm) I guess you could call this muscle confusion. The consistency is: Work, Recovery, Rest, Strength gains.

sounds similar to me . My calves suddenly went very heavy when i was 21. I'm still running at 45 but every run is tough. I only manage 2-3 km before my lower legs become so weary that i have to stop. It's like running with concrete boots. I've had so many scans and tests and still seeing doctors. Also get in my upper arms.

My initial thoughts upon reading the title, and then again upon reading most of the description, was compartment syndrome.

I then saw that the results of the test were negative, but if I HAD to bet, I'd still bet compartment syndrome. However, that supposition is based only on my own previous situation. I was tested twice before going through with the surgery (right leg only) during my freshman year in college. One test came back negative, the other came back borderline. I knew the procedure came with varying levels of satisfaction, but I was pretty desperate and decided to go through with it. I am by no means suggesting that just because it worked for me, you should try it also. Just something to consider. I am more than happy that I decided to go through with it.
