Its too early to call Black Friday a bonanza. Remember deals are noticably better than ever before. Sales may be big, but profits? Also stores were open earlier and longer.
2008 had a great Black Friday but come year end retailers were crying into their cash-tills.

My god, I can't believe how full of sh*t that guy is. How does he know how people are paying for what they buy? Doesn't he believe that people should have a choice whether to go into debt or not? If he thinks people should only be allowed to buy what they can afford to pay for in cash, then he is not a capitalist. And a sale does not equal deflation by any stretch of the imagination. Please don't post this garbage on here anymore.

Black Friday is a media creation. It didnt become the biggest sales day until 2003 and thats after 15 or more years of the media reporting. The day after Thanksgiving is a slow news day so they send the reporter off to the mall and create a story where there is none.

Maybe it's because the economy is not as bad as believed. Yes, the unemployment rate is through the roof, but other economic indicators suggest that things are on the upswing.

Instead of buying throughout the year, consumers wait until the sale and really spend.

US GDP is over $15 Trillion with its 9th consecutive quarter of growth.
Profits are up.
The private sector has been adding jobs at a nice clip.
Now spending is up.
What is this terrible economy you are speaking of?
here comes reality

Bullsh*t. The economy is tilting back into recession; it will take a few more quarters before the government officially recognizes it.

Yes, bongs, knives, video cameras, penicillin, etc. They're doing the best job of any group making the 1% richer.

So? They are only following the example set by the US government - they currently spend $188 million they don’t have every hour of every day.

This is all about the exchange/movement and distribution of $. The exchange/movement of $ has slowed down, distribution is less even.

This was completely predictable.

Dont ever expect unemployement to be what it was in the recent past. It will be significantly greater and that will be normal.

Keeping world population in check is actually the long term answer. A sustainable economy has not truly been acheived in the USA.

Please keep your perspective longer than 5 years

So 75% should shop away or that 25% will get bigger.

Do you think that if sales are down, more people will be employed?

Or is your goal for unemployment - don't buy things and companies will hire more people
