Go for it!! In 1976 Feb 29th was on Sun. I heard of a guy who said he would surf every day until Feb 29th was on a Sun. again in 2004. 28 years and he did it!! Sub 5 every day for a year? Yes, that's a good goal. JUST DO IT!!
"lane 8" is the coolest name I've seen on this site. |

Where are you in KS? I am in Overland Park. I will join this effort. |

Your 10 mile pr (53:20) does not do justice to your mile time. With a good training program of around 50 - 60 miles a week, you should be able to run at least 50 minutes flat for 10 miles road. Ghost in Saudi, www.kfupm.edu.sa, mile pr - 4.37, 10 mile pr - 51.20, 20 mile pr - 1:50.49 (Finchley '20' - April 1978, London, UK). |

I am actually living in Maryland now, but a I-435 native. Just finished my grad degree in math from Johns Hopkins and hoping to get back to Kansas soon. |

Why don't you run back to Kansas and do the Sub 5 min mile every day bit on the way? That quest would be worth following on Garminconnect!! |

The immortal JoeMac was trying to do sub 5 every day for ONE MONTH. (An earlier poster already linked the LRC thread from last year.) Our beloved hero came up a few days shy due of a month to weather, holidays and a love of beverages interfering with the quest. I would think it would be nearly impossible to do this every day for a full YEAR without life interfering. The OP has just finished school. Hopefully he is now starting a new career as a result. He is possibly moving halfway across the country. There are a lot of things that may keep him from getting a run in every day, let alone being ready to drop under 5 for at least one mile on every one of those runs. I wish him luck and hope that he can make it. |

good idea. do for 12 weeks get the 5 min mile in and then do a workout. such as another 2-3 miles at 5 min pace = 10 min 2 mile, 15 min 3 mile. 4 miles a day average at sub 5 minute pace will get you new places. mornings do 30 minutes as you feel, add in a few 60-80 minute 6:30 min / mile runs per week. ********************************************* then move to six weeks of (one each per week) 3 x 4:30 miles, 5-8 minute recovery 5 x 2:05 minute half miles 5 min recovery 9:20 2 miles 6 x 400 in 60 with 90 sec recovery mornings do 30 minutes as you feel, add in a few 60-80 minute 6:30 min / mile runs per week. ******************************************************* mornings run 30-45 min. one each per week. 10 x 200m 28 seconds 60 second recovery. 15 x 100m 13x seconds 45 second recovery. one 6 mile run in 32 minutes. race ****************************************************

Considering your PR, running a 4:30 or better mile every day for a year would be more interesting (even if it was mixed with you daily run and thus using a running start). If you believe that is too fast, how about 4:45 every day. |

What are "make good days" and how does one give them? I think it would be a lot harder for a runner of this caliber to log an average of 100 miles a week at any pace, significantly harder to average sub-7:00 pace for these, and almost impossible to run 5,200 or more sub-7:00's in a year, even if they were all in the 6:50's. |

My goal was just as odd. I juggled soccerball over 500times each day of the summer. It only took 5 to 10 minutes out of my day. I don't play soccer anymore so you could say I was just a soccer freestylest. There is a sport called soccer freestyle, where people just compete in soccer juggling competitions. Aren't you worried about hurting you knees running 365 sub five minute miles? |

In 2012, I am thinking about running a sub 5 minute mile every day for 1 year. 10 mile PR- 53:20
Thinking about running a sub 5 should be pretty easy. I just did it while wasting time on Let's Run. |

I'm thinking of reading LR posts for under 5 minutes a day in 2012. |

Here's a question - will you do it literally every day, or could you do, say, 7 on Sunday and then take the week off (i.e. it just has to be 365 sub-5 miles in a year)? I'd think every day would be harder. |

Actually yours is rather off. His is a bit more in line. Only a 4:37 best and you can run 5:08 for 10 miles? Your mile time does not do justice to your 10 mile time, or your 10 mile was off (thought youre 20 mile looks about right for that 10 mile pr). I was a 30:56 10K guy and only ran 51:30 for 10, and 1:08 for a half. I also ran a 4:16 mile. |

I am thinking about running a sub 5 minute mile every day for 1 year mile PR- 4:12 --------------------- for you that would be both pointless and easy |

......."I will never run Badwater, but this seems about as challenging.". You sure about that? 135 miles in 100+ degree heat vs 365 days of sub-5 min miles. I wager if you simply ran just a 50-mile road ultra in cool conditions, you would think otherwise. just a guess. |
