I mean the race has been over for 15 minutes and we have no idea who is 2nd, third or 4th or 5th in team standings? To me, that's not right and wouldn't be tolerated in any other sport.

It's no different when you are on site but the online timing system should be hooked up to the TV broadcast - just release them and say "UNOFFICIAL!!"

Yeah, I have to say that Fernandez is such a disappointment. I'd be fine if he went for it and fell to 97th again. Really, I would. But the guy seems to have basically just had his spirit broken. No desire to win at all, just a role player. Who would have predicted that Puskedra and Derrick would be up there fighting for it ever year, and Fernandez wouldn't even try.

I feel sorry for you. When you grow up, you will realize how very ignorant you are right now.

German didn't even look fatigued crossing the line. This team running thing has gotten a little out of hand.

German rarely looks fatigued, win, lose, or DNF. Anyway, this puts to rest the idea of German as a great XC runner, clearly Derrick and Puskedra and even Lowe have been better throughout their college XC career. I'm sure someone will try to raise the Junior XC from his freshman year, after Derrick and Puskedra had already run Indoors NCAAs and German hadn't, a race that is usually the domain of college freshmen who can't make varsisty on their teams.

A little slow on announcing the team results beyond Wisconsin, but this was great coverage considering the nature of the event and the conditions.

I wonder if they could assign spotters to the 4-6 crucial teams and have them give rough estimates at 800m to go and the finish, and then they would be able to get a better idea of who made big moves (either forward or backward) at the finish and also be able to take better educated guesses at the podium positions. This seems like something a production team should be able to do.

Or....maybe Fernandez was being pulled along by Lowe. What has happened this year to show you that Fernandez is that much better than Lowe?

His loss at the Jamboree? Getting him in a sprint finish at Big 12? Come on, don't be stupid.
Well, there is always this

Agreed. I don't think he tried to get into the top 5 overall. Fernandez didn't need to pull Colby Lowe along after the 8k mark. Fernandez should have hammered the last 2k and tired to pass as many people as possible.[/quote]

There is always the chance that GF is no better than CL at this point and could not have blasted away to take another 20 seconds off his time here.

Just a possibility.

I am sure that the scoring / timing people understand that their bib chip system is not accurate enough to determine placements when close.

Video has to be reviewed for final results. That will take a while.

I think you're forgetting that Fernandez beat both Puskedra and Derrick while injured, though. Just saying. I don't think he was even able to train for like a week or two leading up to Junior XCs.

I don't know who this guy they have on the mic today (no I don't mean Craig Virgin) but whoever he is NBC should scoop him up for track season. He did a great job. Both knowledgeable and able to talk. wow.

I'll concede that you can't read too much into appearances immediately post-race but German seriously looked like he had just run a tempo.

No one is saying, "Why didn't GF just win, or I can't believe GF didn't decide to get top 5 here." What is disappointing is to see what was once a fierce competitor who seemed willing to run himself into the ground to pursue greatness, now seemingly without that drive that made him great. I'm not sure how that makes me so ignorant. Sports isn't some rational, mature, high brow thing here, guys. Why don't you ease off of the bizarrely personal condemnations here?

German always looks like that. Lalang didn't look tired either.

It's equivalent to when he runs 3:55 indoors as a freshman and all the fan-boys are like, "OMG, German was not EVEN tired. He is going to run 3:25 for the full mile when he runs all-out!!!!111!!!"

Yes, but the broadcaster was like he wouldn't have been 4th without the surge.

I think he could have sat in the second pack and run for 2nd, then again that wouldn't have been baller.

Derrick had a great race, whether he went for 2nd or 1st
