In these tough economic times, people are going to extremes to save every last cent they can. What are the crazy things you (or someone you know) have done to save money?

Paid off my car loan two years ahead of schedule, and paid off school loan about 8 years ahead of schedule.
I essentially kept quiet about child rape so I could keep my job and huge salary.
I run to and from work every day. This allowed me to get rid of a car.
At one of my old jobs, I used to steal toilet paper from work. I'd go in on Sundays and take a roll or three.
Eat lots of peanut butter and oatmeal, high in calories and decent for you. I would eat more beans and rice but I don't like taking the time to cook them.
lol
great question. there is a big difference with saving dollars vs saving money. i saved my money by converting paper dollars into silver coins- something that will retain its value while the dollar index continues to fall. this will all make sense to you when your current $20 dollar bill with a purchasing power of 1.5 grocery bags drops to a purchasing power of .5 grocery bags in the not so distant future...
don't research the politicians. research money. then the right politician will make sense. RP FTW.
ran to and from cross country practice
Steal everything possible.

I've done the above as well...
Another popular one is taking condiments from restaurants...I've heard of folks taking ketchup packets, emptying a bunch out into a bowl, add some water and you have low budget tomato soup...
Take a flask to a bar...this can be a $75/night savings in many areas...my favorite is flavored vodka and just order waters - drink 1/3 of the water down, hit the bathroom and top it off with vodka...
No heat in winter and 5 cases of ramen, every meal, every day, for about 3 months. That, and, been a one car family. Used to walk or ride everywhere. Almost got killed riding my bike trying to pinch pennies. Just wasn't worth it.
I had a friend who used to hit up a hotel's free continental breakfast on his walk to class once in a while. I considered doing it, but then read a story in a paper somewhere about a guy who got caught doing it. He was charged with theft.
Not proud of it, but I used to get my medicine in sample form from my doctor.
Living in Spain on a tight budget in 2009-2010. On New Year's day 2010 at 7 AM after many drinks and being in a discoteca for a couple hours, i ran home 6.5 miles from town to my host family's house so i wouldnt have to pay 30 euro for a cab. i threw up and took a dump on the side of the road behind some bushes on the way. i remember thinking my body was just going to fail me at some point because i was so exhausted. at the same time, i was already looking forward to telling my friends about my epic new years.
i was shitting in some bushes on the side of the road and thinking "new year's 2010. f++k yeah."
Canned tuna and green ketchup from BK. Not yummy.
Stopped having fresh lobster delivered to my mansion on a daily basis, now it only comes weekly. Times are tough.
Walked 14 miles once when my car was in the repair shop.
Got a ride halfway back. No buses where I live. Wasn't that bad at all.
The worst:
Stopped by a local college after being graduated. Went to some meetings for some free food. Did this for about a year, probably only saved a few hundred dollars but tons of time preparing food and cleaning up. Also made some educated girl friends.
All in all weird shyt I have done has probably only saved me 1000-2000 dollars. Not really worth worrying about.
