Aww the poor oregon guys were counting on Lucas to win for them
Too bad they can't count on themselves.
you clearly didnt get the joke... someone get malmo in here to explain the "real man" criteria again, this is urgent
The brojos need to stop ripping on Verzbikas. Get a real job, a real life, and stop trying to be self-centered, can't-leave-college idiots. Oregon sucked this year regardless. No need to bring down the junior world champion triathlete for wanting to do triathlons.
If anything, you let down your team by focusing on this website and getting your egotistical opinions out there. I'm pretty sure Cornell sits in the bottom of the Ivy league....and even lost to Buffalo today. And yes, Verzbikas is better at triathlons than you are at running a website...so maybe you shouldn't quit on your team so much.

Oregon would've qualified if they had there #3 guy, but instead they're not going to natinals. This just proves the selfishness of LV's decision
It is all you letsrunners, except me, fault. You slammed him because he wasn't first in every race.
For a freshman, he was very good.
Now that I'm thinking of this, runner fans are F&%king A**H*le fans.
In all other sports they support their heros, here in runners land you all slam the very good runners.
It is very sad to read how every runner who is doing well get slammed by the supposed running fans out there.

That's life. His ex-teammates will have to leave UO and make their own way in life too someday soon.
When you grow up some day you will learn that people have to take care of themselves and their families.
Kids are cute when little but suddenly have huge responsibilties thrown on their shoulders in their teenage years.
Being in an isolated small college town in the middle of nowhere with no visibility is not the place any 18 year old potential international super star should be.
Lukas will be making $500k in endorsements as a pro and he can still run with UCCS at Mt Sac, etc. and enjoy fun with the girls while travelling with them ;-)
Plus he got his dad a primo tri gig. His immigrant family is living the American dream.
UO is THE gateway to Nike contracts, and then cushy office jobs afterwards. Who do you think is going to be offering LV endorsements now that he has screwed over the Nike CEO's alma mater? Sketchers?
Lukas has no time for small time chumps. He's dealing with New York New York.

Why not? His decision hurt his team regardless of his status as world junior whatever-whatever. You wouldn't be pissed if your teammate quit on you at the most crucial point of the season?
Tell this to the U of O kids sitting at home next week.
and I'm sure you were never good enough at anything for your teammates to worry about you quitting on them, makes it easier to comment on the situation...
First off, track is not a sport, its athletics. Second off, track stars are like Gods. They have achieved objectively what others couldn't. You know man Jesus was stoned because he remained a virgin, Jews knew they could not do it.
Since when is turning pro called "quitting" ?
Since a bunch of jealous crybabies have to slave only for measely kits, bags, and shoes then sell them on eBay for a meth fix.
Anybody who has run for a good college cross team understands why quitting the team right before the championship season is a classless move.
Then again they weren't going to contend anyways. If they had been ranked top 2 or 3 and had a shot to win I wonder if all you that are defending him would feel the same.
In other sports when a key member does something stupid at a similar time they get crucified. This guy quit and walked away.

What people have failed to mention too is that Gedyon will not be competing for the ducks due to his struggles in JuCo. Oregon lost a 4:02 and an 8:29 guy in one class...
While USATF was busy paying off Logan, preparing to crown Lanana as CEO (after London 2012), and bequeathing Hightower, Chaplain, Wittenberg, Wickens, etc. perk recipients for life... the jockstraps at UsaTriathlon dispatched their ninjas, slid their way into the smelly, unkept, filthy UO dorms and hijacked Phil Knight's and Nike's Pride and Joy, Lukas Verzbickas. What a laugh ! And they did it during the daytime on a weekday when class was in session ;-)
yeah right. he quit a one quarter unit P.E. class. cry me a river...

You poor sports. Lukas didn't quit anything. He turned pro and accepted the dream deal for any athlete and has provided for his little sisters and brothers and his mom. Stop being a bunch of selfish little p r i c k s.

Since when is being on a team, and voluntarily leaving it due to no other circumstances other than those brought on you by yourself, not called quitting?
I don't have a problem with him making the jump to triathlon. He has to do what's best for him and his family. But why bail on your teammates two weeks out from the end of the season? Couldn't he tough it out just a little longer for the sake of being a good teammate and give them a shot at advancing?
I didn't read all the threads, but maybe I'm missing something. Let's say I was Vin and LV comes to me and says, I want to leave the team, go to Colorado to live my Olympic dream. I just realized that, although I'm number 1 junior in Tri, I may not be top 50 junior in running anymore. So I want to go to Colorado to train for the Tri.
Ok LV, I can appreciate that. You know what, I can even support you in your dream. Furthermore, I can say that you have a lot of talent in running and that won't go away. You are selling yourself short in running, you are better than a top 50. Can we make a deal? There's only a couple more weeks of XC left. The team needs you. You became world Tri champ last year and were able to win FL. If you agree to stay and run for the next few weeks and help the team, i would be ok for you to follow your normal XC/Tri training during that period. On the flip side, let's say you get a shoulder injury or something and you can't do the Tri anymore, then there will always be a spot for you here. Ok, coach, I'll do the last 2 races for you.
Who screwed Oregon, LV or Vin?
How do we know that DIDN'T happen, but LV responded, "sorry coach, I gots to go!"
Regardless of was or was not said, it's hard to defend anyone who bails on their team under such circumstances. Youth and immaturity are not excuses in this case.
Based on the facts provided, there is no defense for LV's actions. If, however, there are facts and circumstances we are not aware of, I could change my opinion.
