Geoffrey Mutai 2:05:06!
NYC Course record now 31 seconds faster than Chicago.
Unbelievable. Never thought I'd see this day.

Insane. He is from another world.
This kid is so smooth, his speed is deceptive. Not even a sense of rigging over the last mile. What a talent.
Boston was better! 2:03:03!

Exactly, over 2 mins faster at Boston which is an equally tough course. No comparison.
I love how quickly wejo has already forgotten the 2008 Olympic race in brutal conditions as opposed to the perfect conditions in NY today.
obvious ... last 10K bout 28:43
Weldon,
Please mention the dollar amount that this race spent in advertising this week. Your statement was ignorant and almost seems like you may be getting paid to say it.
Wejo is like a typical 20 year old who assumes the current best at anything is the best of all time, e.g. Kobe is the greatest ever.
Hard to top the 2008 Olympics in oppressive heat.
Geoffery just blew it open at 20 miles. Geb threw down the hat and looked like he was going to take him on, but was toasted a mile later.
Just dominant.
Wanjiru 2008 Olympics was a better run.

+1
Every time anyone has an outstanding race LRC immediately calls them "the best on the planet" or "the greatest ever."
+1
As an individual marathon performance Wanjiru's race in the 2008 Olympics is still I would rank the best.
As a race, this was probably the greatest and shows the marathon is now in a new era. Basically it's now at the level of the 5000 and 10,000. Mind boggling.
I also look forward to David Monti's report of the event, that is usually an unbiased news source as well.

I called the men's race in 2:05. I am still celebrating as well as reeling from my remarkable performance. Lol.
I think every race WAnjiru has entered was great in its own way. I'll always miss the dude.
Mutai is with it.
IF Ak doesn't pick him, I'll throw a tantrum. I know where Isaiah Kiplagat hangs out-Nairobi club. I'll give him an earful.
I don't know if there ever was a better "performance" - it's hard to compare different courses. It was certainly the best performance in New York, and probably one of the best ever run, though several others could make that claim with equal rights.
It was also a great race to watch. However, this was a long way off being "the greatest marathon in history": Moderate first half, with a group of 10 running together, and then one decisive surge to win by 1:22 minutes.
This year, London was much more exciting, just as Chicago was last year. As for the 2011 New York Marathon, I thought that the women's race had much more drama than the men's.
I don't mind advertising on LRC, in fact, I like the fact that the site remains quite minimalistic, and not inundated with so-called "shoe reviews" etc. However, the clear association with NYRR is getting a bit too much. There used to be disclaimers about affiliations - is it now time you put these under every single post on the topic?
So Geoffrey beat Emmanuel by 1:22. Emmanuel ran 2:04:40 in London.
So Geoffrey is good for about 2:03:10-30. Yeah, that seems right. The wind at Boston probably pushed him 8-10 seconds faster.

But his right wrist keeps motioning like he's turning the pages of a book.
I didn't say it, the Brit commentator did. I hadn't realised until he said it.
