If the Beer Mile were announced today as an Olympic event, who would medal? Who would the USA team be?

I've run some decent times but I still say my best ever race was my 4:55 beer mile after graduation. I closed in a rousing 56, by far the greatest kick of my career. My secret? I ate a couple big greasy cheesy burgers about 2 hours before when I had no plans of running the stupid beer mile. Peer pressure and my then-affinity for Yuengling Black and Tan took over from there. I did win but Galen R. was only about 80m behind.

I saw Wheating, Acosta (Seems like a frat guy), and Leer/centro.

Does anyone know if Steve Prefontaine drinks? I think he will make the team!

If he is it is only because Wanjiru never ran one. I'd have put money on a sub-5 from him.

Wrong. Bottles are legal.

5. Competitors must drink canned beer and the cans should not be less than 355ml (the standard can volume) or 12oz (the imperial equivalent). Bottles may be substituted for cans as long as they are at least 12 oz (355 ml) in volume.

Most people do cans because they are easier to chug from. Symmonds doing it out of a bottle makes his run more impressive.

to throw up (so to speak) another name - I think Leo Manzano could put the hurt on - Guy lived in texas - he must have built up a pretty good tolerance. And when it counts, he is always there to throw down.

Something tells me Brian Sell knows how to polish off a beer like a pro.

I was just thinking that. I remembered he was struggling during the beer mile. In addition, I know a number of guys I went to school with who would consistently run under 6min. We usually did two a year. I think our fastest runner put up a 5:20ish give or take 5 seconds. All with 5%by volume or higher cans.

If we are talking all time...Henry Rono would have a gold medal on his resume.

I'm thinking Ovett would've been very tough to handle when in his prime.

It isn't THE Nick Symmonds. His age is quoted as 21 on the race day (2010) and the actual Nick Symmonds according to wiki is 27, so that is a different Nick Symmonds.
