When were you in the Patriot League? I'm assuming you went to Colgate?

I heard that Lehigh has some mileage hogs and Im sure that navy/army have a stable of guys who are in the 95-100 mpw range, and it shows.

What makes you think that Lafayette had guys in the 100+ per week range?? I dont see how they could have been that bad if they had the majority of their guys doing that kind of mileage.

Having one guy that does 100+ isnt going to do much for building a solid team. You need a large group of guys that are willing to do the work

The Lehigh guys have topped out at 80 mpw max. Good headroom to improve if they get it right without injuries. Navy always throws down a mighty squad. Bucknell wears the freshest pique polos so watch out for the Bison in the fall.

Can we get a verification on the date of the race? Trying to find a cheap flight up to the boonies.

What airport makes the most sense to fly in to? Syracuse? Rochester?

Bucknell definitely has a lot of talent in their young guys, specifically Dugan (9:14 steepler), McGowan (30:22 10k), Garcia-Garrison (14:50 5k). Looking at their recruiting class too, Bucknell has 2 freshman with 9:10 2 mile PR's. Bucknell cold be really good in a couple of years. Don't count them out this year though, they return Krystek and Horning too.

Lehigh could also be very good next year and in the next couple of years too. 3 Juniors all under 14:30 for 5k (Miller, Bernitt, and Mueller). Also, they did have 2 freshman just under 15 for 5k at the bison outdoor classic, grant it that race was rabbited by McGowan from bucknell, but still impressive. I'm not sure how their frosh are coming in because they don't have a recruiting class up, but you can't count them out.

Right now I would say leagues looks like this
1.Navy
2.Lehigh (slight edge...remember bucknell beat them at regionals last year?)
3.Bucknell
4. American
5. Army
6. Colgate
7. Lafayette
8. Holy cross

Top 10.
1. Chris johnson
2. Mueller
3. Patterson
4. Dugan
5. McGowan
6. Satterwhite
7. Galindo
8.Allen
9. Bernitt
10. Miller/Krystek

You really have Mark Allen finishing well behind Dugan and McGowan? And Pope outside the top ten? With all of your emphasis on track times, maybe you should look at 5k/10k Pr's and rethink your list. Allen has run 14:22, and has shown that he is tough as nails when it counts.

I do agree that Bucknell will be good, though.

agreed, having Allen finishing all the way down at 8th is just ridiculous. he will be up there competing in the top 3.

American will be hurt by the loss of Williams and Olsen, but they will have more guys step up, mark my words.

Will Volkman of Lafayette? He's good. John Pope? Also good. Garcia of Bucknell looks good over longer distances. It will be interesting to see how Donner prepares his young team.

Lehigh returns three rising Juniors at 14:25 and below, and don't look too bad behind that either.

Navy looks good, but they will need more guys that are better over the 8k distance. Their milers are very fit, but a lot of the Navy guys mentioned earlier have not done much in a 5k, or have not cracked the top 35 at leagues. Maybe a comeback from CJ Elward and the rise of a few previously unknown freshmen will do them some good.

For once, I do not think we can predict a clear favorite during the pre season, which makes discussion more interesting.
I Love You Chris

Hebda could be good in XC. If he is back in the same shape as he was in HS he should be a 14:30 type of 5k guy. Which would help Navy out quite a bit.

It's on Oct. 27th and Syracuse is your best bet.

Hebda could indeed be very good he certainly has the talent. His success in high school could either be a positive or a negative thing for him going forward mentally.

The other Patriot League thread mentions Tyler Mueller's pork steeple:

"Yes, nice packages all around. Tyler Mueller is ready to let the beast hang out of the bottom of his shorts."

With this new success factor coming into play? Which Patriot league team seems to have the "total package"?

The ungodly performance of the distance squads like lafayette, colgate, and holy cross got me thinking. Does anyone have any info on the worst team in Patriot league xc history? Average time? Were they much worse than todays lesser teams?

There is no way to accurately determine the worst team in Patriot League history by only taking average time into consideration. You cannot compare XC times like you can track times. Every course is different. Colgate's course is on a mountain, Lafayette's course is decently hilly, and Lehigh's course is, for the most part, a grass track.

This is how I think the 3 courses stack up: Lehigh, Lafayette, Colgate (fastest to slowest)

You should probably include Bucknell on that list if you're putting Colgate on there. Bucknell has a lower average finish than Colgate the last couple of years.

Worst teams of each year since 2005...

2005 (@Leh) Holy Cross 256 (27:09, 27:47, 27:52, 27:58, 28:08) Avg 27:47
2006 (@Col) Holy Cross 205 (27:47, 28:11, 28:45, 28:51, 28:58) Avg 28:31
2007 (@Laf) Holy Cross 221 (27:21, 27:57, 28:09, 29:04, 29:12)
2008 (@Leh) Lafayette 245 (26:11, 27:05, 27:22, 27:26, 27:34)
Avg 27:07
2009 (@Col) Lafayette 251 (28:12, 29:41, 29:48, 29:51, 30:10)
Avg 29:32
2010 (@Laf) Lafayette 246 (26:27, 27:27, 27:53, 28:27, 28:39)
2011 (@Leh) Holy Cross 215 (26:16, 26:23, 28:06, 28:11, 28:48)
Avg 27:32

looking at this...it's pretty evident that Holy Cross and Lafayette have struggled the most.

I would say that it is a toss up between the 2005 Holy Cross team or the 2009 Lafayette team

I imagine Navy is going to be formidable this year again. It's a shame we'll have to wait another year to see Boston join b/c they have a team this year that would be a in the hunt for the win if healthy.

How about a girls preview? Bucknell or Navy FTW?

Bucknell girls had a good track season. They get pretty solid xc performance from their mid d girls.

Colgate will be back in the middle of the pack again finally after losing Deroo and Burns.
