I was looking at the men's field last week and that thought crossed my mind. Might be preposterous to say so with the history of NY. So my questions is is this the greatest NY field? If not where does it rank?
Obviously it's the fastest men's field but that's not what I'm after.
Maybe I'm just super biased (3 of the guys are some of my favorite marathoners) and just impressed NY has 4 studs squaring off against each other and this just says something about how the top guys usually get spread out in various races (with the exception of London).
The top 4 guys and my comments.
Mutai Geoffrey KEN 2:03:02 - 2:03:02 speaks for itself.
Mutai Emmanuel KEN 2:04:40 - As good as Geoffrey Mutai was in Boston, Emmanuel won the world's most competitive marthon London and that means a ton in today's age.
Gebremariam Gebre ETH 2:04:53 - last year's champ, appears to be a natural for the marathon and was 3rd in Boston.
Kebede Tsegaye ETH 2:05:18 - until Wanjiru's win in Chicago last year Kebede was the top marathoner in the world. A knock against him is he "only" ran 2:07:48 in London this year.
