Maybe a surprise to many, but with their moving back to Colorado, shouldn't be too shocking.

Deep down, I believe that top level track & field athletes aren't doping, but when Amy Yoder Begley, Galen Rupp, Adam & Kara Goucher all have thyroid issues that affect x% of the population, you gotta raise your eyebrows a little bit. Maybe Adam had an ethical epiphany and said "I'm going to see how good I can do off the juice (explaining his 2009 pr of 14:15)". Maybe thats why Webb left; he didn't want any part in the doping issues. Maybe Kara & Adam did have a crystallization of consciousness, or maybe they were just sick of the dreary weather.
I don't know. Thats my 2 cents, and thats exactly what its worth.
you are an idiot, goucher ran 13:11 under wetmore fresh out of college, had about a decade of injury problems, then went to salazar and ran marginally faster to close out his career, he ran 14:15 because he didn't know when to hang them up it had nothing to do with drugs...no amount of drugs could get a 14:15 guy to run 13:10
the thyroid thing, while i dont really buy it, is at least a statistically questionable
Thyroid problems that affect the important functioning of the population, you mean. It might be that for many people, the same condition: a) would lead to problems in the same manner as an athlete pushing to the top of the distance heap; and/or b) even small problems that would not affect the general functioning of most people need to be addressed in top athletes. For instance, if I had a one percent reduction in my training potential who would even know. But for a top athlete even small differences matter. Further, once you are attuned to something that might be worth checking you look at it. Further, it can also work as a placebo for the athlete.

Distance running is known to lower testosterone, but it's still illegal to supplement testosterone. I don't see how this would be much different unless they had an actual, medically significant thyroid issue.
True. However, it was announced officially today. Hence the reason that OregonLive and Flotrack published the story..

That is what I have always thought about the thyroid and asthma issues you see in top runners. Maybe I have both issues but don't push myself hard enough or close enough to my peak that I would ever notice. Or, can continual high level training be the cause of these issues? I don't know, I'm just not cynical enough to say these issues are cover for doping or an excuse to take an otherwise banned drug.
Good luck to both Gouchers.
It was not Adam's decision to leave Alberto and the OP.
It was Kara's decision to leave.
I don't know about Kara and Adam but if you have read any of Amy's blogs, she has had the thyroid problem since college due to the Celiac issue.
Also, Amy was asked to leave the OP and Alberto decided not to coach her after the US Nationals.
if you think that o'lionard will be a part of the project longer than a year, you're nuts. salazar did jack squat for lemora, howarth, katon, ave, davis, etc. over the 1500m distance. granted, the guy can coach the shite out of 5-10k....unfortunately, 1500m and marathon results have not been the best.

It can lower iron and it is not doping to take iron supplements. Do you now see how it might be different?

thats probably why magness handles the 1500 people..
This thread is useless without pics

so, who coaches amy now and who are her training partners?
Amy has had an achilles injury and has not been running. She will probably get surgery and be out for the rest of the year making it hard to make the team next year. I don't think she has decided on a new coach or maybe her husband will coach her again. He coached her before Salazar

Adam could run have run 14:15 (he run like 14:41 on grass to win Footlocker) as high school senior, the idea that he going clean takes him from 13:10 to 14:15 is complete BS.
As far as the thyroid thing, which seems to be far more common than you would think even among non elite distance runners, I think it has to do with the fluroide in the American drinking water in combination with the stress of distance running.
