Find it curious that Lukas was the first time over 80miles on his very first week at Oregon.
Maybe too much too soon????!!!?!?!?!?!!?!??!!?

He can handle it

I don't know. Saw him on the trail today and he was having difficulty handling sub-five pace on his easy Sunday run.
With a 3:59 and 8:25 I don't know if I'd do a single damn thing different this year from last. Seriously. No need to push the envelope when you're running that fast at his age.
He should have just turned pro and go run for Nike. Oh wait...

Really, you think 80mpw is too much for a highly talented college freshman at (one of) the best distance programs in the country? If Lukas was made of glass and never ran over 40 miles a week in high school, 80 would be too much, but that isn't the case. Face it: Lukas will never reach his potential unless he amps up the mileage, and fast. I was a 4:30 guy in high school and I was doing 90-100mpw the summer before my freshman year of college. If I were a 4:10 or 4:08 guy, imagine how far ahead of Lukas I'd be after a year or two at my mileage if he piddled around at 60 miles a week.
Big whoop. His biking and swimming miles alone combine to well over 80 running miles.
The fastest 3200m by a HS kid running 120 miles/week or more is 8:35. Fastest 3200m by HS kid running less than half that mileage is 8:25.
I wish Salazar would take LV under his wing; he's done a good job at systematically progressing Rupp over the years.
One of the amazing things about LV in Highschool was his consistency... He parents did a real good job managing his minor injuries.
Atleast Banana isn't over racing him, but from the looks of his bloody sock photo he might be racing in practice.

this.
Seriously though, these forums are filled with a bunch nobodies making accusations over something they know nothing about or heard from a friend of a friend's, neighbor's, dog's, roommate's, sister.

Your a retard. Lukas V posts his whole life on twitter, I get my information from there. And how fast are you buddy?
I read Luke never had an ice bath, UNTIL @ Oregon, under expert Lananna. Ice baths speed recovery & help prevent injuries- according to doctors, acknowledged experts, training rooms, LeBron, Wade, D.Rose, MMA'ers, MLB pitchers...
They lured him into the Ice Baths with naked runner chicks.

How do you expect to improve by doing the same thing ever year?
Also, to be clear, everyone knows he actually ran 8:29 not 8:25 right?

"You´re"
thank god somebody finally addressed the fact that Lukas never ran 8:25.

Portland tried to work something out where Lukas would run there and Alberto would coach him. Apparently Alberto didn't want to coach a high school/college kid again like Rupp

How much did he run in HS? If he was in the 70s I would say the jump to 80 isn't a big deal. If his highest mileage was 30 I would say it could be a big deal. Unless of course, he gradually upped his mileage over the summer. I would think with his tri background and the amount of biking and swimming he has done his body might handle a large increase better than other kids his age.
We will see I suppose. Best of luck to him.
I think he said he typically did 50. We're slightly concerned, obviously because we don't want LV's potential to be thrown away by injuries and the like, but 80 mpw is not like 50 + swimming and biking- lot more pounding.
But what do I know? Hopefully they keep him healthy and running.
