I agree that rabbits are not real racing. But I do believe a guy like Geb is entitled to rabbits for a new challenge as his competitors, who he leaves in his wake, can't give him a race in the 5 and 10. Maybe Tergat sometimes and the Marathon.

First of all rabbits don't stink. They lick their fur
several times a day, and think that humans stink.
Secondly, they resent being compared to human labourers
who toil in anonymity.
Thirdly, having the sexual organs and motivation to
reproduce rapidly, they think that humans are inferior,
and are vastly overrated in their athletic performance.
I like seeing a fast race. But I like tactical races as well and outside of championships nearly all races are rabbitted and the tactical race has almost vanished. I think that's too bad because there used to be people like Marty Liquori and Tony Benson who never were the fastest at their events but who were great racers, rather than time trialers, and won a lot of big races.
i just think rabbits have taken a good bit of variety out of the sport.
I think they should do away with rabbits also. Because now they actually have some effective testing for the Grand Prix events, I don't think were going to see anyone coming near the 3k-10k world records any time soon. So, they should just let the race be exciting, and let the real competitors decide the fate of the race. Make guys like El G race for real. I remember watching the World Championships last year and Sammy Kipketer took out the 5k in like 4:05 and was just hauling. He eventually fell off but it lead to an exciting/fast race without a "rabbit".
