Full results including non-Americans?
Those are the US only results. Sam Chelanga finished in a photo with Aaron Braun. When I was talking to them they weren't sure who got 2nd.
I wasn't planning on going to the race but happened to be in Boston last night so I swung by.
Nice race, downtown Providence is much improved since I last visited. The race starts in front of the capitol building and there is an upscale mall next door.
So I talked to the first 3 on the men's and women's side. Video links now added to this post
Men's Race: Race came down to the final 100m. It was a 3 way battle the last 100 between Chelanga, True, and Braun but a bunch of guys were in contention the last mile. The race has a slight uphill right before the finish.
Ben True got the win and Chelanga and Braun were in a photo for 2nd.
Big news I didn't know was that Sam Chelanga is joining Jerry Schumcaher's group in Oregon.
My reflections from my talk with the top 3. Videos will come later.
Ben True
Has raced well all year and said that his coach (Former US 5k stud Tim Broe)'s philosophy is that you never should be more than 2 weeks away from race shape. He had trouble getting into a European race this summer (he did race at Crystal Palace) to hit the 5000m Olympic "A" standard and hopes to hit the standard indoors next year. Although Ture indicated Broe may be leading him to the 10,000m but which event True focuses on in 2012 is undecided.
Post race interview with Ben here
Sam Chelanga
He has found a sponsor (Nike) and will be joining Jerry Schumacher's group (Chris Solinsky, Matt Tegenkamp and crew). He is excited to have the sponsorship search out of the way and said that limited his summer track racing. (True and Chelanga's situation shows how hard it is to get into a race (or pay to get to Europe)).
Sam was no ill will about being a 27;08 10k college performer but having a tough time finding a sponsor (because he isn't American and is older than most US collegians). He said Galen Rupp's 27:48 10,0000m is very encouraging (until Friday, Sam had a better 10,000m pr than Galen).
He chose Jerry's group because he thinks the focus is like his longer distances on the track.
Video post race interview with Sam here
Aaron Braun
Had raced here last year so knew that you needed to be near the front up the final hill. He talked about how much 10,000m running has progressed in the US in the last 5 years to the point where he ran 27:57 this spring and was disappointed. For London 2012, the focus will be on the 10,000 as he does not think he can close fast enough in the 5,000m.
Post race interview with Aaron here
Women's Race:
Lindsey Scherf went out hard early but after a mile Julie Culley was out in front and all alone. The top 3 said they ran largely alone most of the way and there were not many men near either.
Culley got the win (15:39), Kim Conley had a breakthrough in 2nd (15:47) and Emily Brown was in 3rd in 15:55.20 with Sara Hall 4th in 15:27.
Post-race tidbits on the top 3.
Julie Culley
Now a part of Coach Gags, NJ group, she is excited about the future. She was pleased to do well at USATF 5000m on the track after missing time earlier thsi year but now wishes she had taken the Lauren Fleshman approach of de-emphasizing USAs so she could have run faster afterwards in Europe. She didn't have enough base when she did go to Europe this summer as she raced to get ready for USATFs on the track.
The focus now is on hitting the "A" standard for London. She's excited about her group in NJ and is living in her hometown in NJ and Nicole Blood just recently moved there (Nicole was spectating at the race).
Post race interview with Julie here
Kim Conley
She finished 10th at USAs on the track and this was her biggest performance to date at a US Champs. She obviously was very pleased and is focused now on London "A" and "B" standards. Post race interview here

Emily Brown
She has had breathing problems the last two years that she could not figure out. She finally took it into her own hands and quit listening to the doctors and taking medicine and this was her best performance and she is glad to be healthy again. Not sure what event she'll run next year (steeple, 5k, 10k are possibilities).
Has a good situation in Minnesota and Lifetime Fitness makes it possible to train indoors during the tough winters. The main thing with Emily was putting the breathing issues behind her and being healthy again so she can continue with the promise she showed before the breathing issues cropped up. Post race interview with Kim and Emily here:
There are advantages to finishing 1st. The Ben True interview loaded:

Runnerspace.com had a live broadcast so I assume they have some interviews if you're into that stuff.
Anyone know the stry on yong sung leal?
I was sick today and my coach wouldn't let me fly to Providence, but I would have blazed the top three.
