Is winning the World Mountain Running Championships even as big a deal as making the US team for cross country Worlds? Who did he beat?

52 mins for a 12k? No is isn't a big deal. Half my team could run that (yes me included).

I hope for your sake that you're joking.

Yes, but could you run it on steep mountain terrain. The answer would be no.
He's run an 8:33 steeple and (I think) a 2:15 marathon. How are you and half your team holding up to that? He's good.
Great weekend for the USA in obscure running events (100K ultras, Mountain running)
Name your price, cause I'll bet against you as much as you are willing to bet. Not for any 12k, but the exact same 12k King ran. Just a nasty race. Well done Max!
It says 12.7k...just saying
So who did he beat? A bunch of 2:30 marathoners probably.
The photos look like a local race. The talent is composed of the folks that are good but know where their last free meals are and their Olympic dreams are over. Still respectable talent.
WAY TO GO MAX!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!
I was just reading a travel magazine article about Albania. Looks like a very awesome place, great food, great beaches, great weather, mountains, nice folks and everything cheap cheap cheap.

Well, I'm sure you know he finished 40th in World XC this year - ahead of Bumbalough, Olinger, Vaughn, and Carlson. He also beat David McNeil, Ben St Lawrence, and Jake Robertson.
But I'm sure half you and half your team could beat those guys as well.
Congratulations Max King. You showed up and crushed at the US champs and then went on to worlds and won it for your country! Savor this moment, and enjoy yourself in Albania. Not sure about your personal situation but I would wear that gold medal out tonight, and tell every Albanian beauty you meet, that you are the world champion!
Max King is a stud.
Any jackoff who is doing some sort of pace math based on his time and distance is a moron.
This Just In: All it takes to be a World Champion is 6:36 pace for 12.7K!
Ahahahahah!
I'm a teddy bear. Grrrrrrrr
Just more invented events for Americans to "win" since we can't compete in the real events.
Yeah thats like talking paces in XC (irrelevant) but take that course and put it on the side of a mountain, good luck to all you punks who think you can run that. Oh yeah and it was in 90 degree heat, hope you hydrated
That is a great win. World championships don't come easy. Honestly until you've competed in the event you have no idea what your talking about. I know sub 14 minute 5K runners that struggle to get within 7 minutes of the top guys.
Well done USA!!

What's more invented than the steeple chase? Kenyans seem to love that race. "Oh, let's add some jumps and water to A TRACK" Cool guys, way to go. No one cares. Also, speaking of it, what is more invented than a completely flat oval made out of rubber? Yeah, that's real running. Dumbdonkey.
Most of the US runners are not even interested in running the world xc
Why don't you enter the world mountain running if it's so easy although I doubt you would even finish the course

You mean real events like the 1500, the 4X4, the high jump, etc.?
