Huge kick in the last half mile brought him back to within 1 second of 2nd. He was 30+ seconds behind the winner.

the most notable performance at va beach was 15-year-old alana hadley who ran 1:17-low. yes, i said she is 15. holy shit.
Slower than I expected but 1) did he run negative splits and 2) was this just a tune up for Chicago? I'm guessing yes on both so I don't think it's a big deal. Still, I would think he'd have won if he was only down 30 seconds from the lead. There is a little bit of prize money. Not much but still.
As for the 15-year-old, that's pretty dang amazing!

Pretty sure she is just 14 years old according to her website:
www.alanahadley.com. Even more impressive!
Yes, but recall that 14 year old girl phenoms often run slower not faster as they mature.
True enough I ran with an amazing high schooler in the 90s...not going to give names...and unfortunately she burned out in college. More importantly she's a great person and mom today though. Nonetheless young women do tend to burn out. I'm not sure why that happens so often compared to young men.
don't forget the canadians. 4-5, ready to tear sh-t up at STWM.

... is childbearing hips.
maybe so but she burned out before the kids came along, sadly.
there have been a few runningtimes articles about her:
nice hijack
A 14 YO girl running half marathons and has her own webpage. Great. Sounds like a young Deano.
I believe that most of these "burn out" cases can be avoided and are usually due to poor coaching at least 90% of the time. Of course, you will not hear the coaches admit it... but look at how many phenoms in recent years have gone on to do well through HS and collegewith the coaching getting better. Jordan Hasay, Nicole Blood, Alex Kosinski, Aisling Cuffe looks poised for big things, Megan Goethals, the list goes on...
Does the 14-year-old even run for her high school? She'll run well in college from time to time, then descend into injuries and social misfunction with or without a painkiller addiction and ultimately become a born again and have 11 beautiful kids and a husband who looks like a refugee from an National Lampoon film. Until then I root for her strongly. As for Hall, that proves to the haters that his Boston effort was worth no slower than a 2:08:30 in fair conditions, so you guys can shut up finally, mkay?

The official results have Hall 4th in 1:03:01. What's with 9 of the top 10 women being from Japan?
