I would love to bitch at someone right now, but how do we know KBS produced this coverage, and not the IAAF itself? |

Jelian is a great athlete. Always has a great kick Maybe not 22. |

Everyone here had the same reaction. He's a Japanese based Ethiopian runs for the Honda team. World Junior champ in 2006 but until today he was not on anyone's radar. |

you mean Teg right there but one lap behind.[/quote] Yea, I missed that. Teg's career is not looking good. |

Right after the race finished did the announcer say, "Alberto Saladbar, before correcting himself?" |

rojo, thanks for your input. One thing though, Bekele did not speak English during his early years of records & victories. He must have spent many hours learning the language. |

My previous post wasnt clear the announcers on Eurosport said both, "In the end you have to reflect, "Did he go to soon?" and Then another announcer or maybe the same one said, "KENENISA IS GONE. THE KING IS DEAD. LONG LIVE THE KING."
But for those who question the tactics, hindsight is always 20-20. Doesn't it seem often that a 52 wins it at the end. That's probably what jeilan ran right? In general, I think people in all events tend to misjudge what they have left and kick a little too early. That being said, if he waits til the last 200 and loses, then people will say he was stupid for leaving to chance even though in my mind it's not really true as despite people think, the last 200 doesn't go to the 'fastest' person. Endurance still plays a big part. As for Kenny B, its just like Haile G in 2001. The question for me is now will he be a shadow of himself in London? |

wejo you shouldn't tout your ignorance so proudly. In the end this sport (in which you are, unfortunately, a prominent figure, it has to be said) gets the coverage it deserves. Jeilan's results go back to 2006, even if all habesha types look the same to you, you should at least remember the name. |

VERITAS! This new kid is just a faster kicker than Mo. And he looked like he had something in the tank to spare. |

the guy is used to run solo 27:10 10k in japan |

the commentators were saying that he was the least of the Ethiopians, even that he was sacrificing himself for bekele or merga |

I'm not saying Jeilan was a favorite, I didn't pick him in my top eight, but to never have heard of him is not right. 88 results for 'Jeilan' even on the crappy LR message board search function, plus 45 for 'Jeylan'. |

First of all, I stand acused: I predicted months ago that Rupp would medal in this 10k and I was wrong. To me, I honestly don't believe it's simply a reflection of fitness. Rupp is clearly just as fit as the rest of the best guys in the world. I believe his confidence is through the roof right now and has to be excited to know he can run with the best in the world 1 year before London. My disclaimer is that I'm still no AlSal fan, but I can't help but to root for Rupp. The kid has some seriously silver-back size balls! Secondly, this Ethiopian is not the next great 10ker imho. Geb and Bek are still King and Prince with no apparent heir to the throne. Yes, Jelian (sp) did win but this his nothing new for East African athletes. How many times have we said, "who the hell was that guy; never heard of this African before" who suddenly disappears a year later? No passing of the torch yet folks. Lastly, all the talk of Teg's "career" being up in smoke is ridiculous. If I could finish my career having run sub 13, won multiple national championships, had a VERY LONG stand at the top of my event on home soil, run in World Championships and Olympics I'd love to be up in smoke. With all seriousness, if this was 1996-2000 Teg would be a rock star a la Bob Kennedy as they have had EERILY SIMILAR times, progressions, and career parallels. |

It was sad to see the end of the Bekele era. Actually I didn't see it - I was forced to watch long jump, but it was sad nonetheless. The GOAT lost his first 10000m race. It was the beginning of the end when Geb lost his first 10000m race back in 2001. In the end I think Farah kicked too early. He lost by a few strides which tells me a kick from 400m instead of 600m out could have given him some extra gas. That said though - it is easier to catch than to hold off someone. |

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ibrahim_Jeilan General rule: if an Ethiopian runner has a .en wikipedia article that's seven paragraphs long, and you've never heard of him, you're not much of a distance running fan. |

seems as if he lost his hair the last few years which might be the reason people dont recognize him. http://www.prphotos.com/store/category.cgi?item=IOS-004078 |

Add me to the list of those who don't think Mo lost because he kicked too soon. But I'd be interested to hear why others think so. Would Rupp have won if he had kicked sooner? |

Why doesn't Teg run the 10k? Because if he did, he would get lapped. |
