How Much Mileage Can You Get Out Of Nike Free's?

i had a couple of free 5.0's, and those lasted me about 400-500 miles (injury free)

Thanks man, thats good to know. If you dont mind me asking, what shoe was you training in before these? And how much do you weigh? Sorry for all the questions. I just want to avoid injury at all cost.

well i only weigh about 120lbs, so i guess i wouldn't have to worry about injury as much. and before the 5.0's i was training in the lunarglides

I got over 2000 on a pair of 3.0's. The last 1200 was without the insoles, which tended to come out during runs on the older models.

They're not so different from other shoes that you need to worry about getting injured, I think. At least I never really thought about it and didn't get hurt in them.

I have never been a fan of Nike running shoes. I always felt like they sold their name instead of a serious shoe. I raced in some Nike's from time to time but would never train in them. These shoes have definitely exceeded my expectations so far. So i may buy two pair of them and alternate days back and forth to help slow breakdown and maybe increase their longivity. Thanks again for your input. Old Dirty that is pretty impressive and for some reason i believe you are telling the truth unlike the fella claiming 9000 miles in a pair.

Yup. The sides will rip, but since the sole is pretty hard they stay runnable for a long time.

i'm on about 1200 miles over the past 6 months on my most recent pair (the 3.0). my last pair lasted about 1.5 years before ripping on the side (the 3.0).

I started running in 2005 and my first pair of shoes was the 5.0. (those rip in the heel) For that matter, about 90% of my miles have been in nike free. I've never had an injury. Probably have an avg of about 50 miles per week since '05 too.

My training has always been relatively low intensity so that may be a reason for my extended healthy streak.

they seem fine. i do notice that when i press the soles from the bottom there are some wrinkles in the foam/rubber/whatever near where it's stitched to the shoe, so not sure if that means it's breaking down or not.

anyway, they still feel good and i plan on using them for quite a while longer.

The sides will rip before you have a problem with them being unusable. I wore mine 'til the bottoms were smooth and they lasted great. I really like them.

If you have a good stride, and mix some trails in, there's no reason a pair of nike free's (3.0, 5.0, and 7.0) shouldnt last you less than 1500 miles. Obviously you have to take care of them, but if you are injury free to begin with than you should be good to go as long as you dont get strained getting used to them.

That being said, if you mildy overpronate somewhere down the line (i'm guessing 600-750) miles you will need to replace them because the padding will go down with use. You need that padding because you pronate. But maybe the free's change your stride and you get better and better with more use.

I would keep a log on how many miles i put into the shoes, and if any weird aches and pains pop up (that obviously arent just from hard running/workouts) than you could evaluate if you need a new pair or not.

Cycle between the lunarglides and the free's. I'm sure both will last longer and you'll have happy feet for many miles to come

The plural of "Free" (a noun) is "Frees."

Wow, if people are seriously getting this type of mileage out of them, i will definitely keep training in them. I'm curious why so called "experts" at running stores say that you shouldnt do high mileage in the FREES? I know they want to make sales more often but they dont say the same thing about other running shoes.....

Does anyone know if these shoes would be considered ZERO DROP?

i put 1000+ miles on free 5.0 and 750+ on free run. I replaced them because they looked and smelled gross, and i wanted to try something different.

That'd be 7mm of drop.

Same amount of drop on the 3.0, though overall sole thickness is 4mm less.

I've got 1000's and 1000's of miles on a pair. They have ripped at the sides and I can't do hard runs in them because my foot starts to slip out but, they are still great for easy - moderate runs.

the reason i asked if they were a zero drop was because i wanted to know how they fair against the newtons. I just cant bring myself to cough up that much money for a pair. Is anyone wearing these and have worn the newtons?
