Ouch. U of O cannot be happy.
Why he wastes his time doing that stupid sport is beyond me.
Damn, that gouge in his knee looks bad.
This was in some kind of team relay event attached to the junior triathlon champs. Probably a bridge too far after winning yesterday's triathlon championship.

um, because he could become the best in the world at it, win a gold medal, and make a ton of $ ? Other than that...... can't think of one reason. Oh yeah, he might think its fun too.
So yeah, no good reasons.
(but don't worry, I think he might be giving it up after this season to become a full time runner. And instead of best in the world, he might become the best in the USA at running. Not a bad choice to have to make)

yes, stupid and risking a lot for a little in return

you mean track? agree..a waste. He is already worldclass in Tris, and nowhere globally in running. A complete waste of his time. A good thing he only ran 2 races this spring.
He'll be okay, I think. These kinds of cuts and bruises happen all the time; so long as he didn't break any bones (or something worse for that matter), this is nothing season ending.

Yeah. A high school kid shouldn't just be out doing the sports he enjoys. He needs to understand that his running is very important to a bunch of random people he doesn't know. He should respect this fact and make his decision accordingly.
I'd say that his Tri training helps him a lot anyway. Maybe that's why he does that stupid sport.
He is risking a lot. He could lose a scholarship to a glorified community college. A true loss....

Being a top American runner is greater than being a worldclass triathlete.

According to whom....you?
LV would beg to differ, it would seem.
I would rather be the best soccer player in America than the best lacrosse player in the world.
Juzsayin
he seems to have more of a chance at being a great triathlete than a great runner.
even if he switches later to focus solely on running, the training volume he's doing without just pounding the roads could pay off big time.
Just read an interview with him post-victory. He said he thinks he's better at tri, but enjoys running more. So, I guess that's why he's getting into running?
Yeah, because, like, everyone knows that, like, lance armstrong and alan webb wasted their time doing that stupid sport. Like, it did nothing for them!
