Great to see another great Southern California prep, UCLA athlete, Olympic Medalists, and New York Marathin winner do well for himself and his family.

They will probably just rip off someone elses flat and have him wear that. That is their whole biz plan to rip off other companies shoes and make it for cheaper. Think shape-ups, Bob's and probably every dress shoe they make. I know they are trying to get into the minimal game so maybe this is their push. I know they approached a lot of other companies before skechers but were trying to get crazy money.
I am for a fella making a buck and whoring it out for a product if need be but I got a free pair of their new running shoes and literally worst pair of running shoes ever (and I wore some Avia back in the day). I can usually relegate a pair to short runs or just hangout shoes but not only are the shoes totally ugly, they are uncomfortable and I am afraid I will get hurt. After two times wearing, gettin rid of them. Maybe if he is advising them on how to make better running shoes and they make a special pair for him.
I love it. Meb is staying true to his SoCal roots. I'm looking forward to seeing him in some skater shorts and shirt for his next race.
Interesting that Rovell was the source of this info, since he was the author of a notoriously ignorant and offensive article about Meb's victory in the NYC marathon:

You can draw your own conclusions
Dude imma huge UCLA fan, but this is an epic fail. But yeah.....shapeups. Lolz.

Yea, well... you're talkin' CNBC... longtime home of the rabid Dolberman and Madcow.
didn't Joe Montana sign a deal with Skechers? Maybe it's just an endorsement deal of some sort.
someone posted something about Nike dropping athletes before the end of their career. This is typically true when an athlete is not already a product of the Oregon system. If they came from UofO, then they will likely stay within the company and move on into another form of work. It's too bad Meb couldn't have grown with Nike to be in international sales. I think he's got a business degree, and he speaks Italian and Eritrean, so being tri-lingual with a business degree could set him up well for international sales.
Didn't Bob Kennedy end up with Puma at the end of his career? You would think of all people Nike could have kept him happy.
Has this been confirmed by anyone else?
Strange no mention of this signing on meb's twitter, but he seems to mention some Sony product every few days.

I think you're confusing CNBC with MSNBC. CNBC has many "free-market," quasi-tea-party reporters and commentators, although there's quite a range. MSNBC, sadly, has chosen to position itself as a left-leaning counterweight to Fox News. I end up going to CNN now, largely by default.
Anyway, Rovell's article was inexcusable, and his partial retraction or apology the next day wasn't good enough. If anybody actually cared about this sport, he would have been fired.

To be fair, lots of the Skechers womens shoes already are designed like spikes even going so far as to have the visual aesthetic of the spike plate underneath, but without spikes.
No one can question whether he's a true American anymore; Greed is trumping morals and ethics here

I'd say he's in good company:

They made an offer, but it was pretty modest.
this is like lance armstrong signing a deal with huffy
Love the analogy. You're dead on.
What's the deal with those "Shape Ups" anyway? What exactly does Skechers claim that they do? Is it some sort of earth shoe knock-off?
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
