Jesus...she runs 14:45-14:49 like it's her job.
Long Live Huddle !!!! 14:44.76 !!!
I was watching without sound and with obv lots of interruptions. It seemed like the pace lagged a bit too much in the 2nd-3rd kilometer I know they were 854ish at 3k. She gave it a good try with 3 laps to go maybe it should have been 5 laps to go instead. Who knows how she was feeling though.

it IS her job
The winner ran 14:20 how did that happen? If you lag you lose. Why did she not go with VC?
Very impressive. Can't wait to see what she can do when she takes the pedal off the metal.
this is the 3rd time she let a leader get away and just hoped the chase pack took her to the AR...i think at least one of these races she could have taken a little bit of a risk and pushed earlier. Def dissappointing for fans

Because it would be suicide for her to try and go at 14:20 pace. Let's not be too hard on her. She was 2nd in a major marathon last fall and then took a bronze against a world class field in world CC. She is our ONLY hope for a medal in the distance events (male or female) at worlds. I think she will eventually get the American record. She needs a pack of gals running at 14:40 pace that will drag her along. She had to run solo last time and this time the pace wasn't quick enough or she just had a bad day.
The big mystery is Jenny Simpson. I know she's concentrating on the 1500, but 15:18? That's really pathetic. She has not run a single good time since she turned pro (at any distance). Hopefully, she will peak for worlds.
I was thinking the same thing about Simpson. Hope it works out in a month.
Simpson needs to go back to Boulder or find a new home and coach in Oregon.

Well someone ran a 12.53 recently... they may have a decent shot at a medal. Just saying.
Outside of Scott Bauhs at least.
I agree 100%. Common sense would have told her to go out alittle faster then AR pace. If she failed she would fail trying something different instead of beating a dead horse. The pacemaker went by 1000m in 2:55 which is 14:40 pace and Flanagan and most of the group had already starting losing contact.
Try going out at 14:38-14:40 pace and see what happens. I hope Molly Huddle beat Shalane to the sub 14:40 first. Why keep trying the exact same strategy and fail by such a close margin?
She cant go faster . Her talent is tapped out.
Simpson will be feuled once again by all you naysayers who have doubt her (I'm being sarcastic here).
Shalayne seems to have plateaued in this distance...

It wouldn't be any of the Nike affiliated coaches.

Simpson didn't look fit it's as simple as that. She even looked like she could be carrying a bit around the backside. A fat contract did her no good.
Shalane Flanagan is by far the best distance runner we've got. She seems to race much more than anyone with maybe the exception of Lagat and I can't remember the last time she had a bad race. Very consistent and always competitive. She's not afraid to race unlike most Americans. Races marathons, XC, 10k's, 5k's,miles, 1500's and even 800's. She is the type of runner all of the American runners aspire to be like. Tough as nails and not afraid to mix it up.

Couldn't have stated it any better. What a contrast to Solinsky, who seems to race about once every six weeks and then drops out or trips and falls into a bush. He's our great hope? Or Rupp? High pollen counts keep him out. But he did a nice tempo run at nationals and 1 good 5k. The state of U.S. distance running is actually terrible. On the men's side, our only hope is a 36 year old Lagat.
Look at Flanagan's range. She has run a quality marathon all the way down to a very respectable 1500. I think she has a big decision to make as to what distance she will run at the olympics. She can't win the 10k, but she might win the marathon.

Bullshit. At some point, Flanagan will run under 30 for 10K. You can be assured of that.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Move over Mark Coogan, Rojo and John Kellogg share their 3 favorite mile workouts
Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
Red Bull (who sponsors Mondo) calls Mondo the pole vaulting Usain Bolt. Is that a fair comparison?
