WTF ????? animal!!!
WTF ????? animal!!!
I would expect no less. Kiprop is a beast
In barefoot out of lane one as well.
Morcelli was recorded to have done a 47''XX in trainers after a hard track workout.
This proves nothing. Ventolin's calculator is better proof of Kiprop's 400 speed than this. Just ask him.
That was one for all the track obsessives everywhere. I'd like to see some of our guys do that. Of course, Kiprop's got a 1:43.17 800m pr, so you know he has good speed.

No calculator here, but after running 1000's of laps on dirt tracks (with shoes) I'm pretty sure he could break 48 (47 low??) on a mondo track with spikes and other (true) 400 runners in the race.
his stride is just freakishly long

I am not disputing your guess, but remember that the altitude actually helps in the 400...
He didn't even win, who cares that he 48 for the 400 on the dirt track barefoot from lane 1
Man, he may have the potential to be Olympic Champion in the 1500.
I thought he managed to nip that guy at the line?????He slowed way down and Kiprop had a better lean and won...

Yes, AND he was WJ XC champ too, correct? That is pretty sick range. Based on that, in ways he is actually the Alan Webb of Kenya, based both on his range AND his underachieving. Yes, I wrote that, underachieving. Of course he won the 1500 gold, and then....he's lost a LOT of races.
He's really been up and down. Again, with near 1:43 flat speed in the 800 ( AT AGE 19!), and WORLD JUNIOR X-C champ type endurance, he should be running well under 3:30. He should be taking off on a Bernard Lagat or Hicham El G type of career. I haven't seen that yet. And he does whacky things like going out in 49 in the 800 with Rudisha when, despite his natural speed, that type of race is NOT his game. 51.x would be good for a miler/x-c star, especially one who is not in tip top shape. And what happens? He dies incredibly and gets passed by the whole field. Very predictable.
I don't think the guy works very hard and is a bit of a head case. Talented as hell, but I don't know, something is missing.

I don't know what race you're watching, but in the one I watched he was clearly wearing black spikes! He was certainly not running barefoot.
I timed his run twice, and got 48.7 each time. While pretty good on cinders, there have been quite a few 1500 guys that could have matched or ran faster than that.
He's wearing spikes, albeit dusty ones. However, no blocks and a horrible start. What he lacks in power he makes up in stride length. Looks too weak and lanky to run that fast, but he can.
Wearing nike spikes for sure. Not sure why he didn't rate a better lane in that field- with that long stride it would make a significant difference. Probably worth around 47-flat in ideal conditions.
What's the difference between stride length and power? Doesn't more power mean longer strides?
No moron, a 5'02" power lifter does not have a longer stride than a skinny, tall 1:43 half miler.

On a synthetic track with the right conditions, I would say he's easily in the 45 range.
